Finally, great connection to something I learned from @teacherhead at ResearchEd NYC - “turn and talk” isn’t TEACHING if people are just saying what they already know. Giving them content to apply in conversation moves this technique to the highest level. 💯
If you want to take one SMALL step away from getting kids to copy / take notes & the below seems like a lot, try hiding the definition/idea. Copying suddenly becomes immediate retrieval. Over time, try a turn & talk & choral response gaps. Take small steps to tweak your practice.
The best way to increase the number of your students getting a grade 4 is by improving your school. Better behaviour, better curriculum, better teaching.
Worrying about bell curves and stuff is a red herring. Better schools. That's the answer.

Wonderful evening of orchestral music @chiswickschool tonight. We are so proud of the students - making music & making friends - we even have bassoons! Thanks to the incredible PTA who fundraise to help us make music so accessible & also @HounslowMusic for all their support! 🎶
