@mpare004 @dcmireles I agree with this and while most of this responsibility does fall on the athlete themselves, I think it is crucial that the athletic department does push their athletes to do the best they can. #UCR50 @dcmireles

Athletes that come from lower socioeconomic families struggle in the academic aspect of college which can affect their eligibility. This is not limited to big universities, but to community college who target lower class athletes. #UCR50 @dcmireles
@chloedjenkins @dcmireles I think it should be fair for players to receive a gift from fans, especially if they are not asking. The amount of control the NCAA has is ridiculous! #UCR50 @dcmireles

This does not even include regular season games. Off of March Madness exclusively, the NCAA makes almost 11 billion dollars off the biggest teams in America. Yet, none of that goes back to the players directly #EDU50 @dcmireles
@SoniaMonroy15 @dcmireles I agree with you on that. I think the institutions turns a blind eye to Title IX issues, especially when it comes to coaches, because they don't want to make their school look bad. #UCR050 @dcmireles

I like this page because it provides statistics on how many people Title IX effects and the benefits it has caused. Even though the book highlights the history, this goes into great depths. #UCR50 @dcmireles
@Michaela_Rose98@emilytoma003 @dcmireles I agree with you on this and I also think that some of this responsibility falls on the athletic director and school administration #UCR50 @dcmireles

Not having a diverse population of head coaches is not only unfair but also not providing a sport, where nearly half of the players are black, with a person they can look up to. #UCR50 @dcmireles
@Michaela_Rose98 @dcmireles I totally agree with you @Michaela_Rose98 . However, I do also know that many universities do have meetings with a sports psychologists and many schools have them on staff year round! Whether athletes are utilizing them to the extent is questionable @dcmireles #UCR50

Even though there are still not a lot of women athletic directors the numbers are multiplying. I think having a women in this position plays an important role for the job description, especially being a liaison to the community. #UCR50@dani
@akim_122 @dcmireles I think one of the biggest factors is that men sport's produce the biggest revenue. Therefore, the pressure to be great is eminent to the university and the players feel that pressure. #UCR50 @dcmireles

I think this article highlights why the rule of amateurism does not work. Most schools undermine the rules of the NCAA. The root cause is most coaches know the players are being under compensated. #EDU050 @dcmireles
@melissacerril @dcmireles I think that is an interesting picture. I also think that it is unfair of the NCAA to allow this given the rule of "amateurism" they want to keep. #UCR050 @dcmireles
@blieu002 @dcmireles I think it's fair to say this wasn't as punishing as it could have been. I think the schools reaction was abnormal. It lessened the severity of the consequence and I think while the coaches learned there lesson, there leadership is what kept the team together #UCR050 @dcmireles

Coaches compensation still stuns me. What's even worse is the gender gap between men and women. If schools argue men are better coaches, then why do women who have better records still get paid less? @dcmireles #UCR50
@MaaaarisollM @dcmireles @dcmireles I love this article. I believe the NCAA makes it look as though women are treated fairly, while at the end of the day, I feel as though men are still getting paid more and receiving higher positions. Also, I know some schools are more progressive than others #UCR050
@akim_122 I like this article and I think it is important for athletes to be viewed as students and athletes. I enjoyed the helpful points. I especially liked the encouragement of writing papers involving their sport. It makes for a passionate and personal paper @dcmireles #UCR50
