@Samfr@PatrickCragg I'm not disputing your main point, but childcare costs don't suddenly stop after 1 or 2 years. For an average 2 child family with primary school children there are ongoing costs of pre/after school and holiday cover for at least 10 years, probably more depending on ages of kids.
@asentance Doing an internship at the New Statesman. Was sitting in Victoria station on my lunchbreak when it came on the giant overhead screens. Very surreal day.
@profchristians I also thought it was a camembert. Somewhere in the twitterverse there is amazing thread all about what different countries call pie charts. And it displays the names as a pie chart of course
@cliff_mcqueen@PJTheEconomist I'd be pretty surprised if a Conservative government in Westminster would ever raise income taxes to be higher than a Scottish SNP government.
@cliff_mcqueen@PJTheEconomist You mean the opposite of the current situation? Scottish income rax rates are already higher/ have narrower bands. England has a way to catch up!
@RichardJMurphy Tax is almost always political. But in politics there's the long term vs the short term. Too many short-term political pressures result in hastily drafted legislation that makes a tax professional's life harder
@DrZeshanQureshi@JudithFreedman Congratulations on your twins' first birthdays! ๐ Its good to see you and your family flourishing, although sad it is still very much a minority. I hope more fathers will feel encouraged and supported by their employers to follow your lead
@delaFeriaR I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on identity. I like to think of it as a stool with many legs. The more legs you have on your stool, the more stable and comfortably you can sit
@LaurenABowie Congratulations! I'm not a lawyer but I've spent 18 years working in corporate tax, fell into it somewhat by accident after another job offer in a different field was retracted but never looked back!
@MerrynSW When I'm actually on holiday, I wouldn't use the term. But if I have to take a day off because of something more mundane then it feels wrong. Like when I'm actually just at home with my kids or visiting my parents. Its not a holiday, but I'm not going to be at work that day!
@JudithFreedman@BillDodwellTax@OTS_UK Income tax is devolved but NICs are not, which makes it even more complicated for any Scottish income tax payers.
