@barbalink@anne_marie_bio I used a metal meter stick to measure depth at lynx locations. Would take 4 measures per site. Also measured hardness by dropping a pop can filled with rice from a set height above the snow and measuring the depth it sunk. We called it our highly scientific densiometer. haha
For @hakaimagazine, I wrote about beach dogs, which are both shockingly harmful to coastal ecosystems *and* a wildly contentious political issue. Note: I am not w/out sin when it comes to letting my little killer roam free!
Let the angry emails commence.

Contrasting bottom-up effects of warming #oceans on king #penguins at two islands, illustrating the complexity of understanding climate change impacts on predators. #ornithology

@wild_ecology @GM_TweeterBird You got it, the warm is when the squirrels are in the nest. It is pretty easy to separate ibutton data into in and out the nest. I used ibuttons to document nest attendance in red squirrels. Our approach to separating the two phases can be found here: https://t.co/Tz9hu8xzWQ
SO excited to announce my first paper out today in
@Ecol_Evol that explores how mammals avoid predation during rest. Could not be more grateful to have worked with my phenomenal co-authors @DiseaseEcology and @roxannesbeltran

New paper in @ESAEcosphere: Vertebrates took longer to initiate scavenging carnivore relative to herbivore carcasses, and carnivore carcasses persisted on the landscape for over a month longer! @YMajchrzak@akmenzies@ekstudd@ClaytonTLamb@boutinlab

Check out our new paper in @ESAEcology examining how food availability and long-term predation risk affect snowshoe hare's antipredator response to lynx encounter. Collaborative work with @ekstudd@MJLPeers@YMajchrzak@boutinlab@akmenzies @RDerbyshire7 @MurrayLab_Trent
Check out this awesome interview/video by @akmenzies about our use of technology to study lynx.
This paper has been my favourite experience in science so far. A team effort from start (co-first author) to finish (sharing media).

A closer look at the secret lives of the Canadian Lynx! We’ll be speaking to @akmenzies, a researcher who took part in a study on just that! Listen in on #LetsGo!
A new study by researchers from #McGill, @UAlberta and @TrentUniversity provides new insight into the behaviour of the elusive Canada Lynx and a first look at how miniaturized technology can open the door to remote wildlife monitoring.
