@KhoaVuUmn When I was pregnant we didn’t want to reveal our chosen name until after birth. So friends/colleagues referred to baby boy as egen max (last name) - egen for short.
@TwterlessKalina Have been thinking a lot about this. Students need repeated reminders of value add. I start on the first day, but constantly remind them that they are learning to think for themselves, which is hard but super useful. Also tell them about the research mentioned by others.
@BenHanowell @Andrew___Baker Glad to know I’m not the only person who feels like eating out doesn’t save time! I thought I must be doing it wrong. I also enjoy time spent cooking, so that probably compounds the problem.
@lemoNikki @Andrew___Baker Yep. Totally fair. Not saying that it doesn't take time/effort to cook at home. But given that I do, I've been extremely disappointed in takeout options in general.
@Andrew___Baker To be clear - I’m not trying to brag about cooking skills, but bagged salad, grilled cheese, fruit, pasta, frozen French fries, etc… comes together quite quickly.
@Andrew___Baker I can cook a decent meal in 30 min. By the time we decide where to eat, what to order, and then time to pick up it feels like more of a hassle/time suck. Also I have kids, and there’s no world in which it’s faster to order grilled cheese than to make it at home.
On this week's Education Gadfly Show podcast, Amber Northern reviews a new study by Courtney Collins and @elarive on school quality and local district administration. Listen to it here!

Then ask yourself what we teach in 1st year undergrad principles courses. Take micro: maybe the Coase Theorem and Market for Lemons. Probably not (much/any) behavioral, IO, Contract Theory, (much) game theory, market design,... 3/6
I wrote an op-ed at @WSJopinion about the hidden costs of COVID testing. Because tests are paid for through insurance with essentially no way for insurers to negotiate, labs are charging high prices that we'll eventually have to pay for through premiums.

@chelsea_econ Do as much active learning as you can. Check out EconInbox for resources. I like polling in big lectures. I love guided notes. Don’t be afraid to be yourself / be vulnerable- students want to connect with you as a person. Happy to share actual materials. Email me.
@briangknight@EmilyNix100 You’ve got to be careful about this. We had to drop down the journal rankings substantially before finding a place to publish the main paper. Editors said specifically- would have fit except for the P&P.
