TL;DR: How to Create an Ordinals Provenance Gallery.
A provenance gallery is an on-chain record of an Ordinals collection that contains: • Collection title • List of inscription IDs • Item metadata & traits • Collection artwork
It's especially useful for collections that weren't inscribed using parent/child provenance and can be submitted for verification on @ord_net
Before you start, you'll need: - Provenance gallery cover image - All inscription IDs - Final item ordering - Collection metadata/traits - Xverse or Unisat wallet
Steps:
1. Connect your wallet on https://t.co/fUCBWXOoCf
2. Upload your gallery image This becomes its own inscription and serves as the collection cover.
3. Fill out attributes • Collection title • Description trait • Collection metadata
4. (Optional, but strongly encouraged) Add a parent inscription If you're using parent/child provenance, the gallery can become a child of an artist or collection parent inscription.
5. Attach the gallery • Upload an existing marketplace metadata JSON to auto-populate items OR • Add items manually with inscription IDs, titles, and traits
6. Verify everything Double-check: • Inscription IDs • Item order • Traits • Missing or duplicate items
7. Preview, set fee rate, and inscribe.
LARGE COLLECTIONS: Bitcoin transactions have a ~400KB limit. If your gallery exceeds that size: • Use MARA Slipstream • Skip Broadcast during inscription • Submit commit tx via https://t.co/ItDcn3DTm2 • After confirmation, submit reveal tx via Slipstream
A proper provenance gallery should: ✓ Use valid inscription IDs ✓ Include the complete collection ✓ Preserve intended item ordering ✓ Have consistent metadata and traits ✓ Clearly represent the collection on-chain
Common mistakes:
❌ Inscribing before finalizing the collection ❌ Incorrect inscription IDs ❌ Inconsistent ordering ❌ Blindly trusting old marketplace metadata without verification
The gallery becomes the canonical on-chain reference for your collection, making provenance, discovery, and verification significantly easier.
Note: a gallery can still be made for a collection which used p/c.
There are so many collections yet to inscribe a gallery and get indexed on @ord_net.
Whose responsibility is it?
If you’re in a community or hold works by an artist who needs to do it, push that artist/founder to sort the provenance.
Unsure how to do it?
My dms are open. 🙏
@reubs_btc@LeoCoinSTX@Stacks LEO Cats is the 10k @Stacks collection, maybe STX will realise any culture and community they had came from the NFT side of things.
@LostatHome106@SeizeCTRL I’ve got no interest. The art is cool. But, for a project to have VC investment and arguably do nothing is sad tale and a grift.
