The Uganda Onchocerciasis Elimination Expert Advisory Committee (UOEEAC) is holding its 18th meeting. Onchocerciasis, commonly known as river blindness, is caused by a filarial worm transmitted by black flies (simulium) that breed in fast-flowing rivers. Over 99% of onchocerciasis cases are found in 31 African countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Uganda. This underscores the urgency of strengthening surveillance, enhancing cross border collaboration and ensuring sustained multi sectoral engagement and funding.

Representatives from @CarterCenter, @WHOUganda, Sightsavers, Lions Clubs, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and district leaders from upper Madi Mid-North are in attendance.
