Back to Day 1.
After years in product & L&D at Amazon and startups, I’m building again in AI x Learning.
Helping ops-heavy teams train smarter, perform better.
Early days. Lots to learn. I’ll share as I go.
If you're in L&D, ops, or AI, let’s connect. DMs open.
More soon 👋
Do your homework, and do due diligence on the founder, team, and employee tenures. If past employees quit left and right, run away from this startup as if you run into your ex while wearing crocs and pajamas.
Many folks looking for their next startup gig have two options to choose from, given the times:
* Join a super early co & risk it not being a rocketship
* Or join a rocketship & live with the risk of stock options going underwater (crazy valuation)
What would you choose and why?
I can see where this coming from, but have to disagree. Amazon's innovation in automating its own supply chain and logistics AT SCALE is the biggest wall blocking any competitors.
@conniechan Good thread. Perhaps a big e-commerce company. But not a competitor to amazon.
The physical logistical moat that Amazon possesses is the largest firewall in business today.
An entire generation of entrepreneurs & tech investors built their entire perspectives on valuation during the second half of a 13-year amazing bull market run. The "unlearning" process could be painful, surprising, & unsettling to many. I anticipate denial. Some thoughts:
.@des_linden now the chief running advisor at Brooks. This role is in addition to her elite athlete contract. (subscription reqd) https://t.co/KW1UX7XcUF
Dropbox, once a darling of VCs, has raised Series B at a $4B valuation and Series C at a $10B valuation.
8 years later today, $DBX is valued at $8.69B in the public market.
The last 18 months in the VC world were bonkers, and as a result, we will see many more Dropboxes.
Bad Marketing Copy:

- This is what it does
- This is why it's cool
Good Marketing Copy:
- This is what you're facing
- This is how I can help you solve that
- This is what differentiates me
- This is why this product is right for you
- This is my promise
People sharing their negative view on a subject to find validation, and in fact they actually don’t know much about that subject. Don’t get influenced by those people and opinion, discover and develop your own, that’s the best way to learn.
Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
– Swami Vivekananda (12 January 1863)
There are 3 types of people:
1. People that WANT it to happen
2. People that WISH it would happen
3. People that MAKE it happen.
Surround yourself with people that are at the intersection of all 3.
Belief + Desire + Execution = a killer formula.
NFTs can be used for so many different things that you're inviting history to make a fool of you if you dismiss them. Even if I were sure that most current uses of NFTs were bogus, I'd never dare to say that all possible uses were.
4/ Not understanding core values
In the early days, I thought companies putting values on their site were just virtue signaling.
With each passing day, I realize how wrong I was.
We now hire & fire for core values.
Everybody in #startup and #venturecapital ecosystem agrees on one thing.
⭐️The team is extremely important⭐️
However, a dysfunctional group of super-stars unlikely leads to success. How to identify dysfunctional teams and fix them 👇🧵1/9
