It’s illiteracy.
So synthetic phonics, explicit vocabulary instruction and guided reading might be a better intervention line…
If we are serious about early intervention in schools to stop criminality later on, we really need to focus on literacy and numeracy!
- 71% of prisoners have lower literacy skills than the average 11 year old.
- About 1 in 5 prisoners are at or below the level of a 5-7 year old.
