Mountain View High School Math Teacher Elliot Beck believes everyone can be a math person and he tries to show that to his students each day when they walk into his classroom. https://t.co/nOZv4t9WVA
Me: I'm a math teacher.
Them: Oh, I hated math in school. Also, what's with this new way of teaching math? Why don't they just teach it the way we were taught?
Me:
@TimBrzezinski@mccainm@pgliljedahl@BTCthinks Thank you Tim and Melissa for all your work on this. I am pumped to start using the spreadsheet this semester! Gonna be a game changer 🙌🏼
I was recently asked by some folk thinking about algebra curriculum design & teaching my thoughts on the matter. I decided to share three general principles I've been following in my own writings of late. It's a YT video.

Are they unexpected? Are they over-the-top?
I: Math is bigger and bolder than any real world model -- even the one that motivated it!
II: Content is a vehicle for teaching thinking (not just a vehicle for teaching more content!)
III: Mathematics is fundamentally human
(I am referring to this current writing project of mine: https://t.co/jTnCRdsZRK in case you are wondering.)

@TimBrzezinski Well said Tim! I have the same mental-wrestling that you do - content is a driving force and I do wonder at the relevance of some things we teach. But like you said, we have to do our best pedagogically given the constraints we have with content.
It was awesome getting to talk with @LoganJo53157565 about his first year of teaching. Logan's reflections are so thoughtful and encouraging!
