@lobster5000818@MHR5000818 I'll definitely check it out! True, many factors would come into play. Another scenario is if a person with an eating disorder was put in a country with scarce food resources. I think for both situations the loss of control is a major factor, & initially they would try to survive
Well done on finishing placement everybody! This placement has allowed my confidence and communication skills to grow so much and I have learnt skills I'll continue to use in the future, not just in nursing but in life.
@Alli5000818@MHR5000818 Yes we have this also! The lessons they teach are different from normal school & are for all ages so everyone can participate & be involved
@MHR5000818 One nurse asked me an interesting hypothetical question, "If a person who is suicidal is put in a war zone would they still try to die or would their survival instincts kick in and cause them to seek refuge?" What does everyone think!?
@Megha5000818@MHR5000818@MHR5000818 I wonder if dieticians that have previously suffered from an ED work with their patients/consumers suffering from EDs in a similar way that peer support workers do with MH patients as they are able to provide a patient/consumer perspective to the situation!
It is a formulation approach that helps to increase your understanding of a case and can aid you in recognising problems and planning suitable interventions
Learnt about the 4 P's approach you can apply to an adolescent/young consumer. These include predisposing factors (eg. genetics), precipitating factors (eg. substance use), perpetuating factors (eg. medication non-adherence) & protective factors (eg. family support).@MHR5000818
It is amazing to see how the MH nurses, psychiatrists & community care workers work together & communicate with the consumers. I find myself always assessing what therapeutic listening skills they are using & if they have any roadblocks to listening. Is anybody else doing this?!
Enjoying my placement so far. It's so different to previous placements with much more consumer contact & I have found it is generally a more relaxed environment with less structure and routine! Initially I found this lack of structure difficult but I am slowly getting used to it!
