@LiverpoolVista In fact this was the embryo for all of the world’s skyscrapers. It’s construction was watched by a teenage John Wellborn Root from Georgia. Lesson learnt, back in the US he trained as an architect and used steel not iron adding the new electric lifts. Voila the skyscraper!

Hardly a mystery - magical or otherwise - tour location for my Norwegian Cruise Line guests, many of whom were Brazilian Portuguese speakers with minimal English. Thanks to samba supremo Sergio Mendes my only Portuguese is 'Mas Que Nada' which meaning 'No way!' wasn't much use.

@oakroyd Just sailed on PS Waverley from Llandudno to Liverpool. Superb way to enter Liverpool by the traditional way . 80 years since her launch she looks immaculate. Highly recommended but Liverpool sailings are sold out but she’s sailing from other UK ports this summer.

@Dr_TheHistories Britain’s record of preserving its irreplaceable maritime heritage remains abysmal even after HMS Implacable’s planned scuttling. I don’t think lessons were learned and we lag far behind Germany and Scandinavia. Too much has been lost already in the UK.
