A marvellous and moving call-to-arms from Michael Carrick at his news conference. I particularly liked “I’ll hold that umbrella for me to get wet and keep everyone else dry.” Will it do the trick and finally inspire the players to behave like professionals ? I very much hope so but Manchester United is a club where player power has ruled supreme since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. If they ignore what Carrick said he's doomed and the Groundhog Day of new manager-temporary improvement-collapse-sack the coach will continue season after season.
Richard Walker used to support the Tories but when they didn't give him a safe seat to fight he jumped ship and backed Labour. Starmer tossed him a peerage and appointed him the Government's ' cost of living tsar '. If Walker's taken this long to clock that Labour is the ' benefits party ' then I don't think Kemi Badenoch will be rushing to have him back.
A nightmare trip down Memory Lane for Ruben Amorim. As he watched his AC Milan team being humbled by Bournemouth the Vitality Stadium must have felt just like Old Trafford.
Sir Keir Starmer ( remember him ? )may be forced to give evidence to the grooming gangs inquiry. Starmer has been listed as a ' core participant ', in the proceedings, which are due to start in December. It would be only fitting for him to undergo questioning considering how he had to be dragged kicking and screaming into setting up the inquiry in the first place. Time for the toolmaker's son to face some of his beloved ' due process '.
We've thought small since the Glazers arrived and it's got worse since Ratcliffe took over the football side of things. It reflects itself not just in the choice of managers but in player recruitment. So many of the signings have been mediocre. Rubbish. But often expensive rubbish !
After the debacle in Como the vermin who own and run Manchester United will do what they always do and sack the manager. They'll find a replacement but whoever that is will soon find himself walking the plank like all the managers since Ferguson. Like Groundhog Day the whole saga will then replay itself over and over again,
@Wondersofworld0 Ukraine has the right to defend itself because Russia invaded it. Ukraine is therefore entitled to employ any methods it chooses to fight back, including striking Russan energy facilties. All's fair in love and war !
They haven't appointed an elite manager because very few have been available. They've been forced to choose from what little there is. There's speculation today that Julian Nagelsmann is interested. But then he's out of a job at the moment. Why? Because Germany had such a poor World Cup. So he's hardly 'elite.'
Wayne Rooney is spot on. Like Lisandro Martinez last week Fernandes remarks were totally hypocritical, They're both senior players who - to put it mildly - have not been delivering. They have no right to criticise anyone else. Certainly not the manager. If I were Carrick I'd sack Fernandes as captain. God knows why he ever got the armband in the first place. He may be the star player but he's temperamentally unsuited to lead a team.
@davidwalsh1956 I've said it before David. It's the Curse of the Glazers. It arrived when a family of shysters from Florida was allowed to turn one of the world's greatest football clubs into a dustbin for their debts.
I don't suppose it's within the rules to withdraw from the Champions League. I wish it were possible because Manchester United's shameful performance against Como proves that they're not a fit and proper club to take part in the competition.
