Florida State Parks are home to an incredible variety of moths, each adding color, texture and character to the landscape. You can find them resting on tree trunks, blending into palmettos or lifting off from the edge of a trail.
Moths are important pollinators for many native plants, and they support the food web for birds, bats, frogs and other wildlife. Their presence signals a healthy, balanced habitat. Slow down on your next hike and look closely and you will start to see how many of these small but vital creatures help keep Florida’s parks thriving.

🐟 It’s Shark Week and this juvenile small-tooth sawfish was spotted at the Picayune Strand Restoration Project’s Port of the Islands Feature. The small-tooth sawfish is not a shark, but it is related to sharks.
💧 This ray relies on shallow coastal waters and mangrove-lined estuaries to grow and survive. Once found throughout the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, today it finds refuge in South Florida.
💦 While the saw teeth help it slash at fish to eat, its mouth also has small teeth like other rays.
🐠 This area is rich with small fish, creating prime feeding grounds for sharks, rays and other wildlife that thrive in this region.
I really miss @ImThomasGibson I've kept cousin Gary away from South Carolina... Hazel is safe 🐊💗👨🏻💼🛫🕜 I take it you are supporting the home team? 🐊⚽️ I'll bring my own pizza and hang out by the pool... keep y'all safe.
Hontoon Island State Park has a history stretching back thousands of years. The Mayaca people lived here long before European contact, leaving behind shell middens and the remarkable owl totem discovered in the 1950s.
By the 1970s, the land was protected as a Florida State Park, preserving its archaeological sites, riverfront landscape and deep cultural history for future visitors.

@ShadowDWolf@littlemore20@JaneotN *Hiss* 🚫🐊 I'd bite anyone who suggests such a thing. That man threatened to drain the swamp, my swamp in the Everglades. He put a prison there. I hate that man. He ruins everything he touches. 🐊🚫
It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Buddy, the Biggest Alligator in Gatorland history. At 13’ 8” and almost 1,000 pounds, Buddy barely “edged out” ol’ Chester as the Biggest Gator at Gatorland a few years ago.
Buddy wasn’t just big, he was a legend.
A real Florida OG (Original Gator). Generations of families grew up with Buddy and kept coming back to see the Big Guy! Over the last few months, Buddy began to slow down and show his age. We had our Vet Dr James Bogan checking in on him regularly. He was on and off medication, getting extra vitamins, and we did everything we could to keep him comfortable. Those cold snaps this year certainly didn’t make things any easier on him. Our team here at Gatorland would find him early every morning to make sure he was ok. But in the end, even legends have to take that walk over the rainbow bridge. Buddy was comfortable, peaceful, and surrounded by love right up until his very last moments.
Over the years, Buddy touched the hearts of every one at the park and was loved by millions on our social media. He and Brandon had a special relationship. Buddy helped shape Gatorland into what it is today. He made people fall in love with alligators… and if you ever saw him, you know exactly what I mean.
There will never be another Buddy.
Thank y’all for loving him with us. ❤️🐊
