@americanmcgee I think to me it was realizing that every opinion is subjective and imperfect, including mine.
With this kinda thinking, arguing only makes sense as long as you're having fun.
@grok
classic bit of gamedev smoke & mirrors
i present: "fake interior tube"
similar to the famous 'window interior parallax' trick,
but projected on a cylinder 😊
cute, huh?
@VladVexler I must say, that after visiting shrink for a period of time I've largely stopped reacting to provocative statements, or when I do I don't create flame anymore.
Even though online activity isn't something that I've discussed during those sessions.
@SandyofCthulhu@romero Man I love your takes because they are always entertaining to read and also sometimes provoke American McGee and John Romero to write their takes which makes it triple fun to witness.
The thing I don't like about these "I heard it from a friend" retelling of past events is that they often falsely assign credit to or demonize someone who, thirty years later, should maybe just be left alone. But, hey, let's do it for the engagement anyway, amiright?
"The Pantera guys spiked American's drink with PCP" sounds like the boomer horror fiction equivalent of "drugs bad; rockers scary; PCP go boom!" that maps exactly to the mind of a person who sits outside these events trying to imagine what it was all really like.
No one spiked anyone's drink. I hung out with the Pantera guys (along with NIN / Manson) on a number of occasions and AFAIK the Pantera guys were mostly just drinkers. And I'm pretty sure that on the night in question, I just got *really* drunk. That's it.
During those years, I witnessed *many* pranks between these bands and members of these bands. But never once did I see them use drugs as a weapon against anyone.
There's a sliver of meaning tucked away inside of all this. And it relates to the nature of drugs and alcohol - and the coincidence of use among people who have experienced trauma. Many whom then transform that trauma into art (games, music, plush toys).
And at the core of that sits the part in all this that bothers me. The idea that any of these people, all clearly drowning and expressing their sorrows in different ways, might "spike" each other... Well, maybe a thought for another day.
@chubakueno@devarbol Also looking for AI slop everywhere is a natural kneejerk reaction.
Dude made a photo of himself and photoshopped soft look onto it, everyone told him his photo is an AI slop.
@devarbol I think in many cultures the endorsed traits for women tend to be compliance, self-regulation and mental endurance,
While for men are more tolerated for impulsiveness and confrontation.
So, by this theory, women don't have it better, they are just already more broken.
In light of recent comments about the nature of games like Mixtape, I think it's worth noting that I strongly believe the idea of "games" exists along a spectrum. And that I don't consider myself a "game designer" in general. Only in a very specific range of design, narrative, and experience.
The games I enjoy and the games I create are often filled with long sections of quiet exploration. Something I've seen dubbed as "asset tourism" for the fact that you're strolling past 3D game assets that you may never see again.
On the other hand, I consider games like Silk Song (based on what I've heard) to be beyond the difficulty range where I can derive enjoyment.
There's nothing wrong with any of these experiences. Though they provide plentiful fuel for rage bait and general debate.
I say, make the games you want to make. And play the games you want to play. And beyond that, live and let live.
As an aside, this exact same debate springs forth with our @PlushieDreadful designs. People assume (incorrectly) that our designs are meant to be everything to everyone. The truth is, those designs express a very narrow area of the spectrum along which people experience trauma and mental/physical health issues.
As the internet once proclaimed, it's OK to not like things. And you don't have to be a dick about it 😂
@turnedfourthing@SandyofCthulhu The premise itself is true however unless you plan to live in complete vacuum, then you not avoid attachments but learn to process loss.
Nobody taught Anakin that cause jedi doctrine is counterproductive which led to their demise.
@Superninfreak@estherzelda0514 It is the case with me. I was still preteen when The Phantom Menace came out, and I loved it (watched the originals 2)
The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith got progrssivly less love from me cause I didn't understand politics and darker tone and thought Padme's death was stupid
