What defines a massive transfusion?
It turns out there is no universal definition. This systematic review evaluated massive transfusion definition in RCTs, and here's some definitions:
>=10 units PRBC in 24h*
>=3 units PRBC in 1h
>=6 units PRBC in 24h
>=4 units PRBC in 6h
>=5 units PRBC in total
>=12 units PRBC in 12h
Curiously, none of these definitions include whole blood.
