There are people who argue even today, that “if Mullah Umar simply handed over Osama bin Laden to America, then America would not have invaded, and a lot of harm could have been prevented”.

This argument is very innocent, it means that you believe America has morals, values, ethics and honor, but in reality, America doesn’t uphold any agreements.

If the Taliban handed over Osama bin Laden yesterday, tomorrow, America would have demanded the extradition of Mullah Umar, the day after tomorrow, America would have demanded Bagram airbase, and on and on and on and on.

The same argument of “preventing greater harm” could apply to every demand, so what if you hand over Mullah Umar, it would prevent a greater harm.. so what if you hand over Bagram airbase to America, it would prevent a public harm..

We hear the same argument coming from critics of Hamas, “if Hamas didn’t attack the IDF on October 7th, then IDF wouldn’t have obliterated Gaza”, as if Israel has morals, values, ethics and honor, Israel has been killing innocent women and children long before the Oct 7 retaliation, and as Yahya Sinwar rightly put it, “does the world expect us to be well-behaved victims while we're being killed?”

Maslaha is good, but there needs to be red lines, if there are no red lines, then there are no limits, if there are no limits, then Islam will become meaningless, because from then on, every rule will be rewritten according to “maslaha”.

Most Muslim countries today have completely forgotten about the red lines. Why did Pakistan hand over Aafia Siddiqui to America? I think it was because Pakistan runs purely on Maslaha, there are no red lines, there are no limits, so then America came again and demanded the imprisonment of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and now we have Imran Khan in prison for sake of preventing public harm, there are no red lines, they will probably surrender their own wives and daughters for the sake of maslaha.

May Allah (swt) guide us.
