I don't know what's going on with @sama / OpenAI drama. But some context seems to be lost to on many on Twitter.
What led OpenAI to where it is today?
OpenAI was not created with the goal of "we will be the next unicorn and make billions of dollars." Rather, the goal was "we will solve AGI for the benefit of humanity."
_This mission_ has allowed OpenAI to hire some of the smartest people alive today. Without naming names, some are on the level of Feynman in terms of genius. In time, you'll read about them in textbooks.
Contrary to popular belief about what motivates people, you don't get talent this high just by paying them well or offering a vision of building the next ten billion dollar business. For some, "making more money on products" is ...just not that extremely interesting. Historically, many of these people have been drawn to fields theoretical physics, but AGI and AI safety is the challenge of our age.
OpenAI was created as a non-profit lab to work on AGI.
Sam Altman certainly contributed to OpenAI's success, but in my view the main capital that brought OpenAI this far is not management genius. Rather, it is the technical genius and vision of the people recruited to OpenAI, attracted not by money but by advancing AGI safely.
How I can tell? Well, some of these people left OpenAI before, believing it was optimizing too much for money rather than safety. They started Anthropic... now OpenAI's biggest competitor at a $30 billion valuation.
All those ❤️ emojis OpenAI employees were posting last night? They were meant to signal who would leave and follow Altman and Brockman to a new company if the board coup succeeds.
It’s most of OpenAI versus the board at this point, I’m told by sources. https://t.co/3vK25TqDFj
Most coverage of the firing of Sam Altman from OpenAI is treating it as a corporate board firing a high-performing CEO at the peak of their success. The reaction is shock and disbelief.
But this misunderstands the nature of the board and their legal duties.

5 days until the #Slovakia|n #elections. Polls and betting odds expect survival dramas: 6+ parties with the combined support of over 28% are at risk of failing to enter the parliament. A similar share of votes was left out in '20.

Kdy investovat do vzdělávání? Do špičkové VŠ?

Keby tam žiadny fanúšikovia neboli už by to prehral. On sa potrebuje nas*ať aby dal zo seba to najlepšie.
This match reminds me more of an ITF match than a Slam final. Cannot believe how low the quality of this match and how badly Jabeur has botched this. Just mind-boggling that Vondrousova is able to win Wimbledon playing such a mediocre match.
Wow. @Meta commits to dedicate three engineer-years to implement the removal of the GIL from #Python and fix upcoming compatibility and performance issues with it.
All this dependent on whether the Steering Council accepts PEP 703.

@jurajpolak@StevoEisele V nizsich seriach to v sprintoch funguje podla mna dobre. Aspon pre mna zaujimavejsie ako sa pozerat na ten isty pretek 2 krat.
