Blue Gropers, it was great to read more information in the @AustMarConsSoc newsletter and to know they are protected under a spear fishing ban in NSW. I've been watching a big one at a local beach, whilst drone flying for @slsnsw and the @NSWSharkSmart program.
@synapse101@JonoInAotearoa I think we should be allowed to wear shorts as part of the uniform. I personally am comfortable in the skirt but have no objection to shorts. We do in summer comp 🤷♀️
@April__Abbott Bugger, about both. Gees I hope you never have to use the active shooter training 🙁 I hear you though about covid. My hubby and son are both covid positive and I’m waiting to get it from them.
@ecologibel@ACT_Wildlife After watching a camp of flying foxes for many years, they seem to kill the trees they roost in, then move on to next tree. Is this how they normally live ? Should they be able to live sustainably in their environment? Genuinely curious. Thanks.
On the New South Wales coast, a fleet of drones is being rolled out in what’s now the largest shark program in the world. For lifesavers, they are the new front line of defence against shark bites. #60Mins
@KEJoyce2 @AndrewF11526574 @GeoNadirAu@HutleyLindsay I also compared dieback and nearby non-dieback sites (with similar topography), to try and identify timing. Data is from mean mangrove patches, extracted with Google Earth Engine.
@KEJoyce2 @AndrewF11526574 @GeoNadirAu Not yet... Its in my masters thesis, at CDU, but I'm only at the start of the process to make it into a journal paper with @HutleyLindsay.
@KEJoyce2 @AndrewF11526574 @GeoNadirAu I’ve actually also done this for mangrove dieback in the Gulf of Carpentaria. I looked at the longer term steady state annual cyclical mean of NDVI, then looked at when the mangroves declined below that mean, to try and pinpoint rough dates of when ‘no return’ dieback started.
@Krasnostein I am over the state vs state issues. Lockdown sucks & I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. People / states do things differently & everyone is learning how to deal with this new contagious variant. It can also take one careless / reckless person & every good plan can go out the window.
@KerryleeRogers_ @JXavierLeon @SatelliteSci@usceduau There are a few surf clubs that do have pilots and drones that can do this on patrols 👍 it’s slowly expanding to other beaches and is a great resource.
@Krasnostein Given that a large proportion of the population is still ineligible or can’t access vaccines, I think this is quite tough. Especially when covid test and quarantine are also still required.
@April__Abbott @svenja_halfter @kate_selway@SeafloorScience@Macquarie_Uni I’m so sorry to hear that April. I think you’ve done an amazing job in everything I’ve seen. I can’t believe Macquarie are closing the department. A great loss!
