For dental, nutrition is a huge part of overall oral health. We perform nutritional analysis' on patients in the clinic at MCPHS. I plan to continue this and always counseling my patients as there are ways to prevent decay by the way that we eat! It's interesting! @beh353@beh353
I have been loving all of the tweets about the health of the upcoming marathon runners. I know so many people who have stopped drinking for months prior to the race. I think it is so important and something to think about! @beh353#beh353
@EPhamnguyen@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hi Emily! I was so interested by Emma's food addiction slide. It caught my eye bc I loved the comparisons that she made, such as the one about addictions to cocaine and chocolate. @beh353#beh353
I enjoyed so much during @EmmaDArpinoRD 's presentation! What I found most interesting was when she said that the more people say you cannot have chocolate, the more you are going to want. But when you are given too much, you stop wanting it. Great comparison! @beh353#beh353
@Dmozaffarian @CDCgov On the topic of children, this is also a good article to read for childrens nutrition. It shows the rates of children who are lacking in certain nutrients and what they are having too much on. I think this is informative. @beh353#beh353
@LexiBreault @beh353 Hi Lexi! This article is perfect for children to see because I feel like the pictures will influence them, especially with everyone on the internet these days! @beh353#beh353
There is so many articles out there written with high evidence and from somewhere you can trust. I would show this article by the FDA to talk about the ways people can make nutritious and healthy meals for their children. https://t.co/RVgWhvfZKB @beh353#beh353
This relates back to treating everyone with respect no matter what they weigh. Everyone's body is different, and that everyone has a different meaning of a healthy weight. @beh353#beh353
@ryleybeh353@beh353 Hi ryley, great post this week. The article was truly shocking to me and left me upset. I definitely agree that the more we research the more we can move away from this and be better! @beh353#beh353
It was shocking what people think of those who are overweight. Hiring managers described an overweight female as unprofessional. I will be sure to always make sure they feel comfortable in their own skin and making sure we keep them at a weight healthy for them. @beh353#beh353
As a future dental hygienist, we talk about sugars in the diet a lot with patients. A lot of conditions can affect your teeth, such as obesity, and we want to make sure that we can help them limit sugar to the best of our ability! @beh353#beh353
@gabbyadorno1@beh353 Hi gabby! I think this was a great way to look at it! Everyone is built different and need different things in order to keep their body to their specific health!! @beh353#beh353
Something that stuck with me during this week was the many factors that go into obesity such as genetics, income, and where you live. The misconception is people think it just means they are unhealthy when really the socioeconomic factors can be the battle! @beh353#beh353
As we are talking about eating healthy and the many barriers that come with it, these are simple meal preps that I feel many of us college students can look into in order to better our overall health and everyday lifestyle. @beh353#beh353
@gabbyadorno1@beh353 Hi gabby, I said the same thing! There is so many times where I find myself ordering out because as students we do not always have the time cook healthy meals with the correct nutrients for ourselves. I plan to work on this in order to better my health! @beh353#beh353
I can relate to "lack of time to plan, shop, prepare and cook" because I am a full time student and work as a waitress. I am at school all the time and usually buy unhealthy foods at the school. While waitressing, I eat the food there so I do not cook at home. @beh353#beh353
There is a lot of people who think they can only get what they are missing through vitamins without researching where else you can get them. After learning that lots aren't approved by the FDA, I think research is definitely needed. @beh353#beh353
Most people don't need to take vitamin supplements because (with a few exceptions) they can—and do—get what they need through food—plus get health-protective phytochemicals. #ConsumerReports https://t.co/YNR9yGlqLh
@AKPici025@beh353 Hi Akela, during my search I learned a lot of vitamins and supplements were not approved by the FDA. The added sugar is definitely a red flag if someone takes this everyday. @beh353#beh353
I recently learned from a friend that fish oil helps reduce inflammation of the brain and helps her feel less foggy. She also learned that it helps support overall health as well as mental health. While doing this, it also reduces blood pressure and cholesterol. @beh353#beh353
There is so much unknown about people's diets and what we are consuming. I think it is always important to tell people to check labels as there are some that have misconceptions! Especially when people are trying to make smart nutritional changes. @beh353#beh353
