UNSC 2664 was a landmark resolution protecting humanitarian aid under UN sanctions.
We need to have continued green light for humanitarian work under the 1267 resolution about ISIL & al-Qaida, as 100 million civilians urgently need aid in countries where these groups exist.

At least 40 children, women and men are confirmed dead in Rafah after an Israeli airstrike last night on tents housing those forced to flee within Gaza.
How many more red lines must be crossed?

One year ago, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2664, protecting humanitarian activities from the impact of sanctions. Here is a reflection on its positive impact ⬇️
During the darkest hours of our presence in #Gaza we never envisaged a scenario where 2 million civilians could possibly live through heavy bombing, deprived of water, food, electricity & medicines.
All measures to avoid such a situation should be taken immediately.
@hatice_varoll@ICRC@hatice_varoll many thanks for your very kind words, I really appreciate your message, and I'm delighted to hear that you found the article helpful. Wishing you the very best with your studies!
Pleased to see my article on the impact of CT and sanctions on principled humanitarian action included in @ICRC 's International Review of the Red Cross, alongside pieces by many valued colleagues who work tirelessly on these issues.
We mourn the loss of Clémence Boutant-Willm and Sam Pegram - two of our very finest humanitarians, colleagues and friends. They will be remembered by us always. https://t.co/rpUhnXfdpO
Huge news from DC - a week after the US led momentous successful efforts to exempt humanitarians from UNSC #sanctions, the Biden administration introduces further safeguards in its unilateral sanctions. This will make a real difference for @NRC_Norway and the people we serve.
First on CNN: Treasury Dept to roll out new policy to make global humanitarian support easier. There will be a standard authorization for humanitarian support to places where US sanctions are in place, instead of making each authorization unique. https://t.co/lI7bqzCqOW

@NRC_Norway has been asking #UNSC to exempt humanitarians from its sanctions for a decade. Today, against the odds, it happened - thanks to @USUN & @irishmissionun With 14 votes in favor, this rare display of multilateral cooperation will safeguard humanitarian space & save lives
NRC has urged the UNSC to take exactly this action for 10 years - we have repeatedly been told that it could and would never happen. We commend the @USUN and @irishmissionun for their courageous leadership on this resolution.
Congratulations to Mirjana Spoljaric for taking up the role as @ICRCPresident at this critical moment for humanitarian relief to civilians in war zones. Principled humanitarian leadership is needed more than ever.
@NRC_Norway has worked to protect humanitarian action from the impact of CT/sanctions for 10 years. This courageous initiative to exempt aid and assistance from UNSC sanctions regimes is a once in a lifetime opportunity to address this issue.
The full exemption for humanitarian relief under sanctions and counter-terror laws and resolutions will save lives. After 10 years of campaigning we are relieved to see @SecBlinken’s leadership and urge all UNSC members to support this vital US initiative.
