@collinrichter6 I think the spread of infotainment is beneficial. Although it shades the issues to an extent, it gets people involved who would be otherwise apathetic to the news and politics #UWJ201#DIS313
@mp1771 As a college student I have a low density network. Although my college peers know each other, they are separate from my family and other friends. Benefits of this would be that I get different perspectives from various groups in my network #UWJ201#DIS313
Is it the responsibility of social media platforms to make sure they only allow true news or should people be in charge of fact checking the sources they read? #DIS313#UWJ201
@DrewVanderMiss1 I think this is a very dangerous shift. Once people stop focusing on the facts and classic news outlets, journalists are no longer keeping us in touch with our government. This can be very dangerous when people go to the polls #UWJ201#DIS313
@ConnorGuest16 I think informing is the most important role of journalists. The rest can come from our own interpretations and inter personal interactions, we just need the facts! #UWJ201#DIS313
This week in discussion section, we talking about the rise of social media over classic news outlets. What does this say about the attention span of our generation? #UWJ201#DIS313
In Lecture today, the guest speaker said he didn’t have a position on the whistler blower being exposed. Do journalists always have the obligation to report what they know, even if it exposes a source? #UWJ201#DIS313
@MollySegUWJ201 In college, we are in our prime to support the issues we care about and influence policy. If we don’t respond to the Hostile Media Phenomenon now we may never... #UWJ201#DIS313
We have others like us on social media and the polarization causes us to share about topics we think are agreeable for our followers. Are we being limited on the issues we hear about as a result? #UWJ201#DIS313
@BlohmGretchen I think people are becoming desensitized to the issue. When approaching it with children, we shouldn’t aim to scare them. Instead we should inform them on this problem, but assure them the adults at their school are trying to keep them safe. #UWJ201#DIS313
@ana_tinder I would bring it up, but focus more on the safety aspect and that their teachers know what to do. This way, all kids can feel safe in schools #UWJ201#DIS313
Approaching the topic of school shootings with children is a tough subject, but it is so prevalent in our world right now. What is the right age to bring up the topic? #UWJ201#DIS313
As Baughman stated, Partisan Journalism is once again on the rise. To what extent will this make politics and voting more limited to those passionate and active in the major political parties? #UWJ201#DIS313
@AnnaFel40043265 I would say due to the prevalence of crime shows violence is widely normalized. I would not say consumers are being desensitized, but as was discussed in the lecture, people are more afraid of crimes happening to them than would have been seen in the past. #UWJ201#DIS313
@KevinKi34689466 I don’t think anyone could have foreseen this, considering there has been such immense advancements in technology over that time period. Even the notion of cell phones being as accessible and advanced as they are was also most likely unexpected #UWJ201#DIS313
