@PatchinHunter I believe that it is dependent on the product. The peripheral route works well on items of lesser value such as food, clothing, and entertainment. However, large purchases such as cars or electronics will need to prove their worth through facts using the central route. #UWJ201
@Marthabekerr I do not believe they will become completely irrelevant. However, I do believe that if television popularity continues to decline, television ads will take a back seat to other forms of marketing. #UWJ201
After talking to a random person out on campus, I came home to see a recommendation to friend them on Facebook. How do you think media platforms gather this information? Is this coinciedence or intentional? #UWJ201
@kisting_p I think the ads that most stick out to me are peripheral ads that use humor as their methods of persuasion. Not because they're effective, but because they're memorable.
@RileyHazelberg Yes, I think this is definitely an invasion of privacy. When advertisement crosses the line from specifically targeting products you may like to actively seeking information through intrusive methods it has gone too far. #UWJ201
After watching both the modern and past CBS nightly news programs, we saw the nearly 4 minute soundbite that JFK received. How do you think the shortened interview soundbites have affected information received via interview in modern news? #UWJ201
@YinzhuH I definitely think the two effects are correlated. The shortened news clips go to show that human's attention span has now been reduced. I think this relates to past apps such as vine and also the few second glace that social media news receives. #UWJ201
@ryan4604 I believe that entertainment opens up the news to many different people who would not necessarily be open to consuming news. However, journalists must determine a line where they will not cross when it comes to infotainment. News still must be informative. #UWJ201
After reading this week's article, how do you believe social science in social media is affecting the world? What positions or responsibilities do you feel social scientists should posses at social media companies? #UWJ201
@emzzzblunt In my opinion, polarized news coverage with the advent of cable news help to intensify polarization. It is political polarization that then contributes to negative coverage because of a perceived correct belief and an unwillingness to have an open mind. #UWJ201
@canhalt2 I believe that social media opens up people to be more negative on a larger scale because of anonymity. There is no reprecussion to their negative comments. They are faceless. Before, negativity may have been present but not expressed by national pre-'80s news coverage #UWJ201
Although we discussed objectivity being a part of reporting and not a personal characteristic, do you think it is possible for some journalists to be truly objective? Is there ever a time where journalists can bring pure objectivity to a subject? What would an example be? #UWJ201
@NPurko Yes. I believe that although journalism can expose important issues that need to be seen, some journalists will share minute details that could destroy a reputation, career, or even life. With little effect on the journalist, this power is easily abused. #UWJ201
@dirkse_13 No, I do not think this is okay. Even though it is technically okay, I think the ethics behind it are not. The interviewee is giving the journalist and inside view into their life. For the interviewer to exploit that on a technicality will do more harm than good. #UWJ201
This week in lecture we talked about the SPJ Code of Ethics. Where do you think the ethical line should be drawn in relation to censorship? Is the recent censoring of the TV show South Park by China ethical? Why or why not? #UWJ201
@MadisonXiong1 I believe that is solely up to the type of media that is being produced. Sitting down to watch the 5 O'Clock news usually doesn't illicit an influential response. It should be informative. However, if it is a war promotion video, the influence should be paramount. #UWJ201
