When you think of advertising, what's the first ad/campaign that pops into your mind? Why? What principles of persuasion does this campaign get after and how does it target you? #UWJ201
@benmoody_ I agree with Kyle! I think it created a divide for people, however I don't know that it stopped people from buying things. You know what they say, any press is good press! #UWJ201
@DrewVanderMiss1 I think short, funny advertisements will continue to gain popularity with younger generations (us). Specifically with our reliance on social media, most will have to be really successful at grabbing our attention and keeping it. #UWJ201
@marikamaddie I'd like to think that I would be less likely to purchase it, but I also know that that might not be true (third person effect!). But if I notice something/some ad is really invasive, I will do my best to refrain from engaging with it. #uwj201
@RileyHazelberg I most definitely think it is an invasion of privacy. However, I also think it's kind of inevitable. Our dependence on the internet and the irresponsibility of putting our personal data online must have some kind of consequences (unless you're Ron Swanson) #UWJ201
Our discussion of the spread of fake news on social media pushes me to ask: Do you think it is the responsibility of the consumer, the publisher/news source, or the social media site to figure out what facts are true? #UWJ201
@emmamaring4 I think with the more entertaining aspects, news can be interpreted as housing less information. But, I also think itβs doing a great job in getting people to pay attention to news who otherwise wouldnβt. It might hold less info, but it holds peopleβs attention better. #UWJ201
@ben_stolar I think things have gotten shorter because of the development of social media. Our short attention spans need things to be faster and more entertaining. #UWJ201
@ZVerdoorn @ATveleneva I think fact checkers are important, but I think it's up to the journalist as well to do their best in reporting the truth. #uwj201
@kisting_p I think negative reporting against my side makes me want to get more involved. Typically if it's negative, I'll care more about it and therefore will do something (whether that be tweet, read a few articles, talk to my friends, etc). #uwj201
In lecture Monday we discussed how campaign coverage has become increasingly negative since the 80's. Prof. Wagner mentioned that the biggest change in media has been the internet and social media. Why do you think the web has made things so much more negative? #uwj201
@stephanie_shoaf I think we are still within the "show me" era of news, especially with the abundance of visual aids on social media. I don't know what's next, but I know this two way road of mass comm. has pushed consumers to be demanding with what they want to see #UWJ201
Nearly everything we know has been taught to us, maybe some experiences we've undergone ourselves but most we are told and expected to believe. How can we trust other people when they are so often wrong? Are we expected to experience everything ourselves? #UWJ201
@MiaGree73272545 Similar to what the other respondents are saying, I believe it's up to the reader to take in the information and look at other sources to figure out the truth, or closest to the truth as possible. #UWJ201
James Curran discussed the media as a watchdog in his essay "What Democracy Requires of the Media." Do you think the media is currently doing a good job holding the government accountable? What other institutions could they be "watchdogs" for? #UWJ201
@sydney_popkin I think leaders are passionate, empowered people who are willing to put certain aspects of their lives (ie privacy) on the line for the cause they are fighting for. Leadership can be so challenging, but so definitely worth it! #UWJ201
@DrewVanderMiss1 I don't think this is "dangerous"; Having news imbedded in entertaining programs will most likely help people be more informed. If they wish to find more information on an issue, they have access to more traditional forms of news that will give them straight facts. #UWJ201
Today in lecture during question time for the guest speaker someone asked: How do you see the coverage of multiracial issues changing? So I pose the same question to you; how has this subject evolved in your eyes? #UWJ201
