Nigeria Has Everything It Needs to Prosper

Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining some presidential candidates and their representatives as a guest and panellist at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Our discussion focused on how to rebuild Nigeria and make it work for its resilient, hardworking, and long-suffering people.

I reiterated my long-held view that the poverty and hunger Nigerians face today are largely the result of years of mismanagement and corruption by leaders entrusted with our commonwealth.

With our vast human and natural resources, Nigeria has no business being associated with extreme poverty and hunger. We have no business importing food when we possess enormous agricultural potential.

With the right investment, policies, and political will, agriculture can become one of Nigeria’s greatest sources of wealth. Northern Nigeria’s vast farmland, in particular, can drive major economic transformation. If countries with fewer resources have transformed their agricultural sectors, Nigeria can feed itself, create millions of jobs, and export food to the world.

On fuel subsidy removal, I remain committed to the position I took in 2023: the subsidy system was riddled with corruption. My approach was to eliminate the corruption, establish the actual subsidy cost, and then carry out a carefully planned, phased removal.

Savings from subsidy removal should have been transparently invested in clearly defined, measurable development priorities, especially agriculture, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, and security. I remain convinced that subsidy removal must deliver real benefits to Nigerians; citizens should not bear higher energy costs while the savings remain unaccounted for or fail to improve their lives. Nigeria must focus its investments on what matters most: food security, healthcare, education, infrastructure, human capital, national security, and unity.

Nigeria has all it needs to prosper. What remains is competent, honest, and purposeful leadership that puts the common good above personal interests.

Von Batten-Montague-York, a US lobbying firm hired by Atiku Abubakar's campaign, released this information yesterday, and I think it flew over everyone's heads! There's hardly any news station reporting or talking about it.

Not even the opposition is talking about it.

These are the actual court documents, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on October 23, 2023. Civil Action No. 23-1816.

And what is actually inside these documents is what Nigerians should be paying attention to. 👇🏽

Page 1: Tinubu personally filed a Motion to Intervene in the case because the existing defendants were, in his lawyers' words, “not fully representing or protecting his interests.”

He wanted to intervene himself, with his own lawyers, in a case concerning the release of records about him.

Page 5: His lawyers argued that releasing the records would “negate protections” and “impair his privacy interests.”

He was asking the court to recognize his interests as a private citizen whose personal information deserved protection from disclosure.

Now get to Page 7. This one is particularly interesting. 👇🏽

Tinubu formally requested 30 days before any documents were released so he could “consult with Defendants about the documents they intend to provide, and assert applicable protections or exemptions.”

Read that slowly.

He wasn't simply sitting somewhere while the US government handled the matter. His filing asked for time to consult with the defendants about the documents they intended to release and to assert whatever protections or exemptions he believed applied.

Then you get to Page 9.

His name.

His lawyers.

His signature.

INTERVENOR BOLA AHMED TINUBU.

Now, before anybody starts screaming “propaganda,” let's be clear:

Tinubu has not been convicted of drug trafficking.

That is a fact, and it should be stated.

But another fact is that, in October 2023, while he was President of Nigeria, he personally sought to intervene in a US federal case concerning the release of records about him and asked the court for protections around those records.

And this was happening while Nigerians were being told he had nothing to hide. 🫩

So don't take my word for it.

I'm attaching the actual documents. Read them yourself.

Pages 1, 5, 7 and 9.

His filing. His lawyers. His name. His signature.

No political commentator is needed to explain the document to you.

No opposition politician is needed either.

Read it. Understand it. Then decide for yourself what you think about it.

Dear brothers and sisters of the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria, On this blessed occasion of Maulud Nabi, I join millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world in celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The life of the Holy Prophet remains an invaluable example of compassion, justice, humility, honesty, and service to humanity. His teachings continue to guide us toward peace, tolerance, and the pursuit of the common good.

Update: We spent the weekend carefully reviewing the U.S. government documents provided to us. We found that #Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu (@OfficialABAT) is lying to the world. For example, this weekend, President #Tinubu and his associates claimed that the heroin-trafficking records have not been released solely because @TheJusticeDept (DOJ) and the @FBI object to their release to protect methods and save lives. But we found that President #Tinubu’s own October 23, 2023, motion to the court shows that he personally entered the federal case to prevent records concerning him from being disclosed and that he is communicating with the federal defendants: DOJ, FBI, DEA, and CIA.

In his October 23, 2023, motion, President #Tinubu argued that the records contained private financial and “law-enforcement information” and invoked FOIA and privacy protections (see pages 3–4). Tinubu went even further, arguing that the federal agencies (#DOJ, #FBI, @DEAHQ, and @CIA) themselves were not adequately representing (protecting) his personal privacy interests in court, which is why he wanted to participate directly in the lawsuit (see pages 5–6). But here is the smoking gun: Tinubu specifically requested 30 days before the documents were released to consult with the federal agencies (DOJ, FBI, DEA, and CIA) about what they intended to produce and release publicly (see page 7).

The court granted #Tinubu’s request to intervene on November 27, 2023. It was at this point that we believe the Biden DOJ went from stonewalling to absolutely blocking the release of the Tinubu heroin-trafficking files. So, in very plain English: Fact 1: President #Tinubu filed a motion in U.S. federal court and asked to be allowed into the case so that he could fight the disclosure of IRS and federal law-enforcement records concerning him. Fact 2: He specifically asked for time to “consult” with the federal defendants (#DOJ, #FBI, #DEA, and #CIA) about the records they intended to release and to assert additional protections and exemptions (see page 7). Nigerians, this is your President.

Within a space of 3 yrs, Peter obi supporters have grown bolder, and calculated.

What they achieved in 2023, made most of Obi's political adversaries to target some OG Obidients in an attempt to replicate the campaign style and voters drive of the Obidient movement in their party. But can it be replicated elsewhere? The answer is No. Jack can try, but Atiku will be disappointed. Balami can try, but North central is locked-in for Obi, not BAT.

One thing is obvious though, they failed to woo the real core Obidients.
And new ones has emerged too; bolder, more informed and blunt.
We're legions and very decentralised, but somehow found a way to speak in unison. Who you wan lobby leave the rest.
If they budget, they will empty the state treasury, and still won't be able to buy every one.

Those Seeking to be Addressed as “His Excellency” Must Behave Excellently

Yesterday, I joined other presidential candidates to sign the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 Presidential Elections.

My signing of the accord is a reinforcement of my continued commitment to insisting that we, as candidates, must conduct ourselves in a way that reflects the office we aspire to. Leaders must eschew all forms of violent rhetoric and rein in their followers to do the same.

The next elections must be strictly based on the issues that matter to Nigerians: unity, insecurity, pulling people out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, and restoring hope to the long-suffering people of our country.

Our supporters must see that we have all committed to free, fair, and credible elections based on issues and devoid of rancour.

Those of us wishing to be addressed as “His Excellency” must behave excellently, and, more importantly, the process of attaining public office must be excellent.

We take very seriously the commitment of INEC to free, fair, and credible elections, as well as the pledge by law enforcement agencies to remain unbiased throughout the electioneering process.

I call on my supporters to remain firm, determined, and peaceful.

Even if politics isn't your personal passion, good governance directly impacts your everyday life. Active participation is the only way to shape the leadership and future you truly deserve.

We must ensure that election materials are all complete before we allow INEC officials to commence election in any polling units.

Find out the number of ballot papers that is assigned to your polling unit.

Confirm the number of registered voters on register sheet of your polling unit.

Ensure that the number of ballot papers are not less than the number of registered voters for that unit. And if it is less than the number of registered voters, ask them to make it complete before they commence the election.

This is to avoid the case of backyard thumb printing that they always used to manipulate voting and election results.

I know what I’m saying because I once officiated election before.

Also, after voting and the results has been entered, the Inec officials is expected to cross out every unused ballot papers with red pen and enter same (the number of unused ballot papers) on the appropriate form before they should be allowed to leave the polling unit.

We have no business with IREV. It is cosmetic. We must approach the 2027 election as if it is manual. We are back to 2003!
We arrive at the polling unit with the mindset to stay there for at least 48 to 72 hours. We watch every vote cast like hawks.
We count and ensure each vote is counted and entered as voted. We do not allow so called human error of votes not entered correctly. 160 cannot be zero!!!!

In the meantime, all unused ballot papers are properly cancelled.

Ensure that the correct figures are entered ooooh. Our business is not to trust INEC!!!!
From the polling unit, we follow the ballot boxes to the ward collation centre. We vigilantly ensure that the votes are not changed!
From ward collation centre we move to the local government collation centre.
From local government collation centre, we move to State collation centre.

AT NO TIME SHOULD WE ALLOW BALLOT BOXES OR RESULT SHEETS TO BE OUT OF OUR SIGHT!!!

From State collation centre we move to Abuja. let states send some representatives) to come meet us in Abuja and stake out where Amupitan will be collating the results from all over Nigeria.

We will be there till result is announced the way people voted.

This election must be personal to everyone. If you vote and don’t wait for your results to be entered then you merely did paper painting not voting.

As for those that do violence, let their families know it will no longer be business as usual. Let everyone call their children to order.

Osun: While celebrating, let us also remember those who paid the ultimate price for democracy

Once again, I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke and the good people of Osun State on the outcome of the election and, more importantly, on safeguarding the democratic process. The people have spoken through the ballot, reaffirming the fundamental principle that power belongs to the people.

As we celebrate this success, let's not forget those who made the supreme sacrifice for our democracy during the Osun election. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives under different circumstances during the electoral period. I believe these families deserve our collective compassion, solidarity, and support. I therefore hope that the families of those who lost their loved ones will be identified and reached through visits, condolences, and appropriate compensation, irrespective of the political side to which they belonged.

Elections should be about the people, their choices, and their aspirations — not about the loss of precious lives. No political victory is worth the blood of a Nigerian.

My prayer is that our democracy will continue to mature to a point where elections no longer come at the cost of human lives, and where political differences can always be settled through issue-based campaigns and the rule of law.

May God comfort all the families who have lost loved ones and grant the departed eternal rest.

Osun: When the People Stand, Democracy Wins

I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory. They - Osun people - have spoken with courage and clarity, reaffirming that the power to choose their leaders belongs to the people. Through his commitment to the people, compassion for their needs, and the strength of his work and achievements in office, Governor @AAdeleke_01 has earned their renewed confidence and been entrusted once again with their mandate.

I particularly commend the courageous youths of Osun who rose to the occasion and peacefully defended their democratic mandate. Their vigilance and determination demonstrate that when citizens stand firmly to protect their votes, the forces of good can overcome the forces of darkness.

The lesson from Osun is clear: democracy is strongest when citizens are alert, conscious of their civic responsibility, and determined to ensure that their votes count. Every genuine vote must be respected, and every lawful mandate must be protected.

This is also a clarion call as we approach 2027. Nigerians must remain informed, participate actively, vote, and protect their votes. The Nigerian people are the ones experiencing hunger, deprivation, insecurity, and hardship; therefore, they are also the ones with the power, through their votes, to bring about the change that will end these conditions.
