@CatholicDrip___ Flavius Josephus. He described the Jewish scriptures as consisting of 22 (equivalent in content to the 39 books of the Protestant Old Testament / Hebrew Bible) divinely authoritative books accepted by the Jews, with no additions or changes allowed after the time of Artaxerxes.
@Moderatemuch@JohnPalumb66174 Do you mean you know zero scripture, or
zero scripture exists, or you are aware of zero scripture says my quotation from exodus, or zero scripture disagrees with me, or…
@CatholicDrip___@DrShayPhD If most Protestants on X are like me, we don’t really seek to trash Catholics. We respond to Catholic unironically dropping something akin to “Protestantism is heresy! Rome is the true Church!” Then, we respond (like now).
I think WE live rent free in YOUR head, not the reverse.
@telestialtakes@JustHereForRead@Piecemaker2121 It can be incontrovertible & uncompelling at the same time. Surviving papyri are a standard Hor Book of Breathings—0 about Abraham (Church essay agrees on mismatch). Defenses rely on lost sections+revelatory process. Share your best citation (Gee/Muhlestein?), and I’ll engage it.
@telestialtakes@JustHereForRead@Piecemaker2121 My point, if you actually try to understand it, is your evidence is only convincing to Mormons, ppl already primed to believe it. It’s similar to the work of Erich von Däniken: 1st assume your POV, & then you try to shove what may pass for evidence into bias. It’s not compelling.
@telestialtakes@JustHereForRead@Piecemaker2121 Facsimiles don’t match Smith’s explanations, and anachronisms persist.
Catalyst/revelatory theories help believers, but the ‘dozens of predictive elements’ claim is debated outside LDS circles. Read Ritner & critical analyses. This is not settled history.” (2/2)
@telestialtakes@JustHereForRead@Piecemaker2121 Smoot and Gee do a fine job trying to make a silk purse out of sows ear, but the only ones they can convince are LDS. Mainstream Egyptologists see the surviving papyri as ordinary late Egyptian funerary texts (Book of Breathing for Hor), not Abraham’s writings. (1/2)
@GodlessEngineer In Matthew 15:19, Jesus condemns sexual immorality. Here’s a short list of what that would include, according to the Jewish POV that Christ was arguing from:
-Incest
-Adultery
-SAME-SEX INTERCOURSE
-Bestiality
-Prostitution/fornication
-Sex with a betrothed woman
Etc.
@robotic_faith@the_senate4292 Still, it’s just another example that shows that the peace between Catholics and orthodoxy is not as peaceful as some might try to argue. Nothings been settled.
@BasedMikeLee - In October 1838, Mormon forces raided non-Mormon settlements in Daviess County, looting and burning down homes in towns like Gallatin and Millport.
- A Mormon militia clashed directly with a state-authorized Missouri militia. This was an open rebellion against the government.
@YahwehGraced LDS teachings reject creatio ex nihilo (God creating everything from nothing). Instead, physical matter & intelligences (the core of spirits) are co-eternal with God—they always existed in some form. God organizes preexisting matter & intelligences into worlds & spirit children.
