What does it take to normalize disabilities? There’s a fear that employers are going to assume that #disability = missing more work/more accommodations. This woman’s experiences have informed her career decisions. They have empowered her to improve care. Let’s do better.
Connected w a BRILLIANT young woman today. She’s interested in biology, economics, and healthcare admin. She’s a #chronicillness patient. Before sending a networking email to colleagues, I checked to make sure she was OK w me saying she’s a patient. (1)
She told me that she’s been told so many times by career counselors to hide that fact that she has a #disability when applying/networking. But she, on her own, realized that in this field of work, it’s “actually a benefit”. #healthcareadmin
So grateful this topic is getting the attention it deserves!
Living with #IBD can be traumatic for a myriad of reasons. Right now, it seems the healthcare system is unable to help those who develop #PTSD as a result.
We need continued research & awareness!

I’m just an #IBD patient standing here asking for a clean travel gas station bathroom to use instead of one that makes me feel like I need a shower as soon as I walk in. 🙏🏻
3 steps to becoming more self-compassionate:
— Speak to yourself in the third person
— Keep your eyes on your own work
— Own your story (rather than it owning you)
Self-compassion is the antidote to shame.
