NDS2 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe’s Mega-Dam Push! 🏗️🌊
Zimbabwe is accelerating major investments in water infrastructure, with the US$733 million+ Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi mega-dam projects set to transform water security for the country’s major urban centres.
🌊 Gwayi-Shangani Dam is expected to provide a long-term solution to Bulawayo’s water challenges while also creating opportunities for irrigation, agriculture and broader economic development.
💧 Kunzvi Dam will strengthen Harare’s water supply, helping meet growing demand and supporting future urban expansion.
Beyond providing clean water, these strategic projects can unlock irrigation, boost food production, support green belts and build climate resilience.
🇿🇼 Water infrastructure is development infrastructure. Brick by brick, Zimbabwe is laying stronger foundations for sustainable cities, food security and #Vision2030.

This evening, senior government officials, and I visited the Chivayo family home in Gletwyn, Harare, to offer our deepest personal condolences following the sudden and tragic passing of Mr. Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy "Lulu" Muteke-Chivayo, and three others.
The helicopter accident in rural Marondera on Wednesday afternoon has left our entire nation numbed and in deep shock and grief.
Wicknell was a man of grand vision, not just for his family, but for Zimbabwe and the wider African continent. The Chivayo family’s deep patriotism and selfless philanthropy transformed numerous lives across public service, religion, culture, and sport.
In this time of national loss, we also mourn the two promising crew members and the dedicated security aide who perished alongside them.
During this moment of profound heartbreak, we stand together in unity, compassion, and prayer with the bereaved families. May the Almighty comfort them and grant collective strength to our nation.
May their dear souls rest in eternal peace.
ZEDCON is more than a conference, it is a national platform for shaping Zimbabwe’s economic future.Opening the 5th Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference #ZEDCON2026 in Bulawayo, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, emphasised the importance of turning dialogue into policy, investment and practical action towards Vision 2030.
Prof. Ncube said the theme, “Smart Infrastructure for an Upper Middle-Income Society,” is more than an aspiration,it is a call to action. Zimbabwe’s transformation requires smart, resilient and integrated infrastructure that strengthens productivity, competitiveness, investment and inclusive economic growth.
The Minister underscored Zimbabwe’s strategic position as a land-linked country, with the potential to become a logistics hub connecting markets across SADC, COMESA and the wider African continent. Modern roads, rail networks, border infrastructure and transport corridors will be critical to unlocking trade opportunities under AfCFTA.
Prof. Ncube identified five priority areas for high-impact capital investment:
▪️ Energy and power security
▪️ Digital & broadband connectivity
▪️ Integrated transport & rail networks
▪️ Water infrastructure
▪️ Urban planning & smart cities
These are key foundations for Zimbabwe’s structural transformation.
The Minister also emphasised the importance of sustaining macroeconomic stability as Zimbabwe pursues stronger and more sustainable economic growth. He highlighted progress in inflation and exchange-rate stability, supported by prudent fiscal and monetary policies, while stressing the need to preserve these gains to support investment and economic confidence.
Prof. Ncube stressed that the scale of infrastructure investment required cannot be financed through public resources alone.
He called for stronger participation by the private sector and financial markets, alongside innovative financing instruments including municipal infrastructure bonds, institutional capital and green energy funds.
The message from ZEDCON 2026 is clear: deliberations must translate into delivery.
Prof. Ncube called on policymakers, investors, businesses, engineers, contractors and young Zimbabweans to help turn ideas into projects, investment and opportunities that advance Vision 2030.
Zimbabwe is open for business. The time to invest in smart infrastructure is now.
