Driving test availability in the North East of England: next available date is in August.
It feels like, amid the stories of young people struggling to find work, putting some resource into helping them to drive earlier may help.
London's oldest parish church will be hosting Coordinating British Progress on February 20th.
Featuring speakers from @sotalikesfuture, @lfg_uk, @BritishProgress, @civic_future, @RenPhilanthropy, @ARIA_research, and some of the most exciting companies leading the way to Britain's future.
Spaces are now limited so be sure to confirm here, as we won't be able to admit anyone not on the list: https://t.co/qNHpOPCodP
Over the next few months I will also be returning to @EndTheBacklogUK, my campaign to fix Britain’s unusable driving test system, this time together with @AmeliaERWood. Watch this space! 🚗

Father who drove 285 miles to take his driving test fails after examiner refuses to sit in passenger seat because it has 'a few drops of rain on it' https://t.co/PTRe7DUvWO
As people travel hundreds of miles to take a driving test, expect more silly stories like these.
Learner drivers travelled an average 133km to sit tests in Scotland.

Aspiring drivers in London already wait on average 23 weeks for a driving test.
Across the UK the average waiting time is over 17 weeks (almost 4 months)
I wouldn’t be surprised if this policy is enacted so that they don’t have to make the process efficient, they would rather normalise long waiting times and sluggish services.

I have STILL not been able to get a test after failing two with a six-month gap between them (and another six-month wait between second and third). If the third one doesn't go well, I won't be able to book another before my theory test (good for two years) expires. Disgraceful.
Maddening that there is basically a de facto ban on young Brits driving (driving test booking system has been unusable since 2020), and yet there is no restriction for people from any other country as long as they've been issued a licence at home (where often the test is just "can you drive in a straight line")
This was a very good bit of reporting. Another thing that it seems would be quite easy to sort out is the enormous backlog in driving tests, as @pastasnack_e has regularly noted
i wrote about how "small issues" of bin strikes/driving test backlogs are in fact big electoral issues
people have far more *direct* experience w/ the DVLA than trade deals, so if you want to win, it's vital to get right
