Today marks 54 years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Furman v. Georgia, which ruled the death penalty unconstitutionally arbitrary. All nine justices wrote their own opinions: five concurring, four dissenting.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We’re expecting great things from you, unlike the Class of 2025, which we all knew was never going to amount to much.
There is no closeup of Pope Leo in this video, presumably because it would offend the papal dignity to see His Holiness instinctively mouthing “BA BA BAAAAAAAA!”
I offer my support to those who advocate for the abolition of the death penalty in the United States of America and around the world. I pray that your efforts will lead to a greater acknowledgement of the dignity of every person, and will inspire others to work for the same just cause.

Earlier this month, Veterans Legal Clinic 3L Jett Watson argued a motion for class certification in Suffolk County Superior Court on behalf of three MA veterans representing a class of similarly situated individuals who have wrongfully been denied the state's Welcome Home Bonus.
Peace be with you all! This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world.
"Nothing is more practical than
finding God, that is, than
falling in Love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. . . .
Fall in Love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything."
- Joseph Whelan, SJ
people who say “why do we need [fine arts, humanities degrees, mid-budget films] when they don’t make a ton of money?” are insufferable. why do we need chrysanthemums? why do we need bonfires or baleen whales or the color blue? we just do. we just do.
THIS. I grew up in Florida and the public universities were engines of social mobility for many FL residents. 700 1st gen students out of 10K is an appalling statistic. @UCBerkeley, 1st-gen students are 29% of the undergrad population--and 37% for the entire UC system.
on my 26th birthday, i wrote I Took A Pill in Ibiza…10 years ago. The song became popular several years after i wrote it. Yesterday i celebrated my 36th birthday. i feel proud to look at the song lyrics and know that NONE of them are true anymore. I’ve grown into a completely new man…one that i’m proud of. check this out… 🧵
