by being connected globally, it makes it a lot easier for us to know whats going on in other parts of the world, whereas before technology we might of only gotten small snippets of international news
@Alexand31420522 i know a guy that had a super embarrassing video get millions of views and even had an article written about it in a popular uk newspaper ๐
@AustinLudmer@MGiaccari because now its much easier to organize a movement/protests (can be done in a matter of days), whereas before it would take months of planning. so now, they are more reluctant to implement actual structural change when we protest :(
@AustinLudmer@MGiaccari agreed, but they talk about a downside to this in a video from lesson 10 which is that movements nowadays lack "teeth", meaning that policymakers unfortunately take protests and movements less seriously then they did 30-40 years ago (1/2)
@SachseTardif yes especially with fake news. theres a documentary on netflix that talks about the fact that fake news is spread 6x faster than factual news. Really scary, people will truly believe anything on the internet.
@SachseTardif i agree, i think social media is a great tool to spread awareness and news, as long as you fact check and do some of your own research afterwards
