@ibrahimibnyusuf@CptAllenHistory There’s always been regional migration chasing employment. There was in-migration to that spot under the ottomans and then as the Jews each made better opportunities than Egypt, Syria, Lebanon etc.
@Srirachachau This is revisionist history. The anti-asylum wave was a worldwide reaction to the optimism in the 1960s to 80s that the new pharmaceutical approach to psychiatry was going to be humane than “locking people away like prisoners.” Carter cut asylums. The laws were pre-Reagan.
@ULTRAJOEBALL@JeffBoChicago@skumWgmi That’s not it at all. It’s the A in the AGI. A lot of income was “adjusted out” and not included in the taxable amount.
@LocalWobbly@ronbski3@RockChartrand In a sense. You want enough debt production that debt is easy to take on for productive (or likely productive) investments. If the ROI is good, debt is generally good. Debt for consumption is usually a mistake.
@BritniDWrites No, VA broke its own rules. AL did not. The court upholds the state rules . If you want to criticize someone, aim it at VA for breaking its own rules. As a local, I can conform, everyone knew, BTW.
@saiyytama@omgsidewalks No one said they work in absolute isolation. What kind of strawman is this?
I said, and say, all data, starting w BLS says income, income per hour and hours worked are positively correlated.
@Explodeintospa1@DemonFramed In part because they think living at the under the table wages lifestyle is a good life relative to the expectations of their upbringing. Where American citizens and lifetime residents believed they’d have a more comfortable (economic) life. Different expectations.
@saiyytama@omgsidewalks Work is work. Obviously taking bribes and insider trading don’t make up much of anyone’s time. If all the best data annoys you, learn better emotional management.
@ronbski3@RockChartrand Oh, you want to ask “is it overcompensated?” or “is there too much capital tied up in banking relative to the value it produces?” Sure, perfectly good questions.
@TVCheesehead@omgsidewalks Not at all. Skilled labor means it takes specialized training, education or experience to accomplish the work tasks.
No matter how “hard you work,” you can’t play concert piano or engineer the attachment between an airplane wing and fuselage without specialized training.
