i’ve learned a lot throughout this semester. my goal as a PA will be to educate patients and families to the best of my ability while knowing my knowledge limits. i will provide them with resources to give further info if i do not know the correct answer @beh353#beh353
@Faithfullfittt@beh353 i really like this idea of farm to preschool. it is a great way for children to learn and try different foods. it will also be fun for them creating a healthy relationship like you mentioned!@beh353 #beh353
Is low-carb (or keto) a fad diet?
I'm gonna say yes, and here's why.
But first, I want to be clear that I think those diets are TOTALLY FINE. They help a lot of people be the weight they want to be.
But they're still fad diets.
A short 🧵
@achen4206@beh353 i really like this article and how it promotes a healthy relationship with food. it also has links to some other sources that seem helpful. @beh353#beh353

@achen4206@beh353 i also found it shocking that healthcare professionals thought it was a good method to fat shame someone. a healthcare provider is supposed to be some ppl trust and go to with concerns not to be bullied and belittled. @beh353#beh353
i was surprised to read that losing 3% of body weight slows down metabolism and causes a blast of hunger hormones which is why it is hard for people to keep the weight they lost off. @beh353#beh353
@taline261@beh353 hi taline! i tweeted something similar and completely agree. i believe it is very important to be aware of other factors that contribute to obesity and to make sure you are always kind and respectful. @beh353#beh353
obesity can be caused by different hormonal imbalances, a defect in the leptin gene and many other factors. it is important to not make assumptions about people and to always be kind as there may be underlying issues as to why someone is overweight. @beh353#beh353
@annekit3 @beh353 hi anne! i also lack the time to prepare meals due to my busy schedule. it’s really difficult to find the time to shop for healthy food or even have the time to cook it when other foods like pizza or mac&cheese are quicker to make. @beh353#beh353
this article talks about the relationship between stress & eating habits. ppl eat more or less depending on how they respond to stress. cortisol is released & the brain thinks it needs to fuel body for a fight so you will crave sugar, salt, and fatty foods. @beh353#beh353
one of the barriers discussed in the article was time to plan, shop, prepare etc. i find it hard to make time to shop and prepare healthier foods because my days tend to be hectic and by the time i am able to shop or prepare it is late at night. @beh353#beh353
@achen4206@beh353 i think it’s a good idea to take calcium supplements if you do not get a good amount of calcium from your diet. calcium is important for bone health as well as vitamin D like you mentioned! @beh353#beh353
my friend takes these melatonin gummies and i am surprised by how much l-theanine is in them. it is an amino acid that is said to reduce anxiety, stress and insomnia which makes sense why it would be in melatonin. @beh353#beh353
this article talks about what whole grains are, why they are good to eat and how to how to incorporate them into meals. they suggest starting with breakfast and eating whole grain cereal, oats etc. @beh353#beh353
@Vdas707@beh353 i like this article especially for the meal planning section. i try to meal plan the best i can and i do find it very helpful! i think patients may benefit from meal planning and knowing what they plan to eat to make it easier to incorporate a variety of food. @beh353#beh353
