Unsure if an optimist with long pessimistic spells or pessimist with brief spells of optimism. Food, PT, defence, politics, aerospace. All opinions my own, etc.
A great arrival in the post today: #C3i magazine Nr 29 from @RBMStudio1, with the game included being @markherman54’s ‘Plan Orange’ standalone game based on his ‘Empire of the Sun’ system. To say I’ve been waiting for this is an understatement.
@Clint_Davey1 The fleet in being also a vital peace time concept for ‘emerging’ powers, esp. in 20th C. Arguably used by GER to spark naval race pre-1914. Also vital for ‘dominant’ powers (e.g. GB’s 2-power/60% standard) or ‘declining’ powers (the 5:5:3 GB/US/JP ratio in Washington Treaty).
Ananda Gupta, the co-designer of @gmtgames Twilight Struggle just tweeted the Olympic Games card. Very appropriate at the current time. To participate or boycott is the question for the non-sponsoring power (e.g. Moscow 1980 or Los Angeles 1984)?
@kishor_nr Didn’t hear a peep out of the journos when the Fairfax library staff were sacked last year. Not much solidarity for the support staff Comrade.
For those with a TV Fetch box, Dirty Harry (1971) is on the free Movie Box. Lalo Schifrin’s suspenseful score anchors Inspector Harry Callaghan’s hunt for psycho killer Scorpio through a post-Summer of Love & pre-BART San Francisco. Cable cars & PCCs feature.
Played through a solo game of @HBuchanan2’s Flashpoint South China Sea in a shade over 90 minutes. The game system kept China in the game right to the end, where a run of US scoring edged them out. #FSCSGame is a great game! Thanks @gmtgames for publishing.
@JDwritesalot Please despair on the state of Australian Journalism. The Nein newspaper in Sydney also ran a similar story with the Harbour Bridge as the strawman. Results were the same.
The exceptional Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - starring Matthew @MrHolness, Matt Berry (@porksmith), @AliceLowe & @RichardAyoade - started on television 20 years ago today.
