SOM is a key regulator of denitrification potential, BUT!, are both POM and MAOM fractions equally important controls over this process? A 🧵:
GAHHHH hooray!!! This is what I’ve been screaming about since grad school! So happy to see this important, and grossly under-discussed issue getting its due, and with my cool pal @sc_mcclelland! Looking forward, and I hope all you SOC stuffers will check it out! 😁
🚨Navigating the academic job market can be brutal! We've tried to create a comprehensive guide for applying to Tenure-Track Asst. Prof positions based on our recent experiences 📚 Check it out:

The thrill of filling your field boots with permafrost thaw water. Behind us is a forest underlain by permafrost next to an open bog where the permafrost thawed and created a massive state change. With @EStuchiner
What's that? ANOTHER opportunity for me scream about abstracts for #AGU24?! What joy! What deja vu!
Deadline EXTENDED to Monday, August 5th! Come chat at the most interesting session out there (I'm not biased): nutrient cycling in ag! Details below! @AGUbiogeo@AGUGlobalChange
See you at @theAGU in D.C.?!
Please consider submitting an abstract to our session examining interactions between C and nutrient cycles in agroecosystems, including feedbacks with climate change and land management decisions. Should be a blast! Abstracts due July 31st!
Tired of being spammed by @theAGU abstract submission requests?! Luckily today is the LAST DAY!
Submit by midnight ET tonight, preferably to OUR session 😂! We've invited @AndreaJilling and @DebSahas, and I can't think of better folks to learn from about nutrient cycling in ag!

This is awesome! The soil N2O community really needs syntheses like these to better predict hots spots of N2O: where there is a lot of root exudate carbon, there could be greater potential for denitrification-driven N2O fluxes!
How much C is allocated to root exudation? Field-based measurements suggest it's a lot - 13 PgC/yr (9% of GPP globally)! Thrilled for this first global synthesis of root exudate data to be out, thanks to @ncharisoil and lots of wonderful collaborators. https://t.co/RHS9lsEDT0
3) Our work underscores the importance of considering the link between C and N cycling to predict spatiotemporal variation in soil N2O emissions when denitrification is the dominant N2O source process.

2) We now present a conceptual framework where spatial variation in POM abundance can regulate local DOC availability, and lead to spatial variation in N2O hot moments.

when it comes to MAOM formation, there's no one-ring-to-rule-them-all..💍
@NoahSokol@AGreenlon and @MegMFoley did a massive 13C/18O/drought/soil habitat study to figure out what microbial ecophysiological traits control formation of persistent SOC.
