Having students download their social media data from Twitter and Facebook. Any resources / lesson plans / lists of questions we can use to think critically about the data platforms collect from us? Very grateful for any suggestions! 💕
A few weeks ago I nervously participated in #AnnotateEdTech with @ethicaledtech.
We used Hypothesis to annotate the websites of Proctorio and other academic surveillance software companies with concerns. You just never know what a company will do.
Here's what this one did 🙏
Great to spend some time today with colleagues close reading the websites of online proctoring software... lots to unpack, and to consider critically. Thanks @ethicaledtech for organizing!
In the spirit of inquiry, our #AnnotateEdTech event (happening now!) is using @hypothes_is to explore the claims and counter-claims of online proctoring software. Follow the annotations here: https://t.co/taBOBDIXp7
New: Cheating-detection and "online proctor" companies made millions monitoring tests during the pandemic. Now the students are fighting back: "How the hell are we supposed to control our eyes?" https://t.co/GjGHKV6Ihk
do you have ethical concerns about some of the technologies used on students? do you want to help examine the narratives being used to sell this tech to edu?
