“MIT is not neutral in an important way. We are an American university. We serve this country. We served this country in World War II. It’s one of the reasons that we won, is because we had the MIT scientists and engineers working for the Allies. And so, in an important way, MIT is not neutral. We’re not some global university that exists in a bubble where it’s utopia. We serve the United States.
And so, if we’re taking money from the Department of Defense to advance military projects, and you’re upset with the direction that the United States is going, then you can vote in U.S. elections. But that doesn’t mean that we should be accusing professors of building ‘killer drones’ (which he says he’s not building) all because you disagree with the U.S. being an ally of Israel.”
In the last 24 hours, two of our leading media sources (NYT & WSJ) have produced research pieces with hard data on why the U.S. should ban TikTok.
Here is the NYT's killer chart. Tiktok systematically censors 80-99% of posts on certain viewpoints, relative to Instagram.

@browserdotsys The books aren't bad, but the characters are all flat and boring. Some parts are a little heavy-handed, too.
Ideas presented are interesting, especially in The Dark Forest, but most get hung up on the titular theory when the overall concept of brinksmanship is the real star.
I have officially ended my boycott of @Chilis. Sadly we just didn't have the numbers to affect change at the company. And yet we must hold out hope that, some day, the chicken and waffles will be back on the menu.
@ThatChrisGore People didn't realize that when they voted to legalize it for personal use they were also de facto legalizing it for every public space at every hour of every day
@atroyn It's not a term for the action itself, but @robkhenderson talks a lot about the concept of the rich holding these sorts of "luxury beliefs". Lots of good interviews with him on YouTube
I would consider buying Twitter verification if it was an a la carte one-time fee or TSA Precheck "every five years" sort of deal that actually verified ID. Could make it just shy of seventy dollars to satisfy @elonmusk's preference for funny numbers. But the sub isn't worth it
If we want to have any chance of repairing the chasmic political divide in American society, we need to get these president AI voice memes in front of as many people as possible ASAP! https://t.co/jeWuZ0AslD
@guildedjared That is true--definitely the inflection point of the series in terms of feel. There needed to be a transition away from the Happy Hogwarts of the first two films and it does that job quite well. I guess it's just the narrative choices that really hold it back for me.
I feel like everyone was bamboozled by a few YouTube video essays into believing Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Harry Potter film. I just finished rewatching all eight and it probably doesn't even make it into the top half
@inceptiontime Also have to give a lot of recognition to the first movie, as it did a phenomenal job of setting up the world. But it is a bit rushed in the final act
@inceptiontime Probably Goblet of Fire. I feel like Prisoner leaves out too many important plot elements and wouldn't make a lot of sense to someone who doesn't already know the story, whereas Goblet generally makes sense the whole way through. And the graveyard scene is fantastic
