Charles Lyell’s 1828 study of thick layers of oyster fossils between layers of lava on Mt. Etna were key to his theories around geological time. Lyell's observations at #Etna were part of a revelatory shift in our understanding of time/our place in the universe. (Coll-203 Uncat.)
