I think the dramatic press coverage influenced people who have never been in a hurricane to do everything they’ve heard to protect themselves, following the old adage, “better safe than sorry”.
At least they didn’t duct tape the glass, that myth has died

I still don’t understand its intention. Is it only to question locals response to boarding windows after the hurricane/tropical storm warnings over the media for the past few days?

Two days ago predictions said up to 70+ mph winds in that area so I assume that’s why some people responded by protecting their windows.
