Telegram's codebase is outdated and buggy. It's 10 to 15 years old, they've never cleaned it, never improved it. It does not match today's standards, not even the standards from 5 years ago. The app is buggy, has slowness issues, etc.

Telegram really cannot and should not be used for benchmarking

Honestly, now would be a good time for any messaging app to compete against Telegram. @signalapp is awesome, it really has everything in term of privacy. It's the best. But it lacks features. Merge Telegram features into Signal (without the NFT/Crypto BS/Propaganda), and you've got the perfect messaging client out there.
