So some time ago, I thought it'd be fun to learn how to write an Android app. I chose a TTRPG dice roller, because I spent about 2min googling and felt that yet another one, with (hopefully) better UI would be nice. It is now available on Google Play.

Hubble and JWST users, here's your chance to be heard on the future of proprietary periods!
My view is that modest proprietary periods are extremely important; they give junior researchers a chance to work on the data without being scooped, and also incentivize proposal writing.
@photonhandler For me, they started coming roughly around the end of my PhD, but I think that was a bit on the early end. I don't think I gave very good referee reports initially.
New DW Feature with @lkreidberg: How can the properties of extrasolar planets explored with #JWST, and what will be possible in the future with @ESO's Extremely Large Telescope?

I had a great time speaking with DW about exoplanet characterisation! they did a great job making this video accessible for non-specialists. Enjoy! 🎬👽🪐
@catellus @whereisyvette I had an interview in Sweden that went exactly like this, too! We bonded over beer and obsessing about what we said wrong/right.
Every year I read a lot of grad school applications from accomplished people that don't give me the info I'm looking for. It feels like a major hidden curriculum thing. So here's (my opinion on) how to write a great Statement of Purpose/Research for a PhD program. 🧵 1/
@samayanissanke I've known a few bullying victims as well, tried to help them as much as I can, and I absolutely agree that the courage required is insane. One lesson I learned after leaving academia is that some hills are worth dying on and I regret not doing more.
@frogs4girls@spacekaila I recently cashed a US check through a Latvian/EU company called U.S. Tax Collect (they mostly deal with EU students trying to cash their tax refunds after working a summer in the US, hence the strange name. It took forever, and it was expensive af but it worked.

I know the lettuce outlasted Truss. I want to know:
Is the lettuce a *more popular choice for Prime Minister* than Truss?
Does it favor Leaf or Romaine?
Does this bode well for the Greens?
Is this the endive the UK PM drama or just the tip of the iceberg?
The first direct spectrum of a planetary mass companion with JWST!

Most exoplanets discovered so far orbit Gyr-old stars. A new cool pipeline by Rachel Fernandes @UArizonaLPL is now available to discover young exoplanets with @NASA_TESS. Check it out! https://t.co/boKx49nlIx
I am so honored to be selected for the 2021 @IAU_org Division F (planetary systems and bio astronomy) thesis prize! Thank you to everyone who contributed to my grad school research - I wouldn’t be able to do it without all of you!
