Under the banner of IOOA, IndianOil officers across India stood united in mourning and solidarity.
Officers observed silence, candle marches and wore black badges to express their deep grief and strongly condemn the heinous murder of our colleague, Shri Mahesh Shelke, who lost his life while performing his official duty at Hingoli, Maharashtra.
His tragic death has deeply shaken the entire officer fraternity. Officers of oil marketing companies provide essential services to the nation, and their safety while discharging official duties must be given the highest priority.
IOOA urges the Government of India and concerned authorities to take necessary and effective steps to ensure the safety and security of oil marketing officers across the country and prevent such tragic incidents from recurring.
Strict action under the law against those responsible is essential.

Shri Mahesh Shelke, an alumnus of COEP, Mechanical Engineering Batch of 2011, was serving as a Field Officer with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). He was brutally murdered while discharging his official duties on 06.10.2026 around 16:10 Hrs at an Indian Oil petrol pump
३७ वर्षीय महेश शेळके आज आपल्या नांदेडमधील घरून त्यांच्या इंडियन ऑइल मधील नोकरीसाठी निघाले असतील तेव्हा कोणालाच कल्पना नसेल की आजचा दिवस काय अघटीत घेऊन येणारे..

चोंढी गावच्या फाट्यावर असलेला इंडियन ऑइलचा पेट्रोल पंप काही काळापासून बंद होता. क��पनीकडून संबंधित डीलरला पंप नियमाप्रमाणे सुरू करण्याबाबत वारंवार सूचना आणि नोटिसा देण्यात आल्या होत्या.
मात्र पंप काही सुरू झाला नाही.
त्यामुळे कंपनीने अखेर त्या पेट्रोल पंपाचा ताबा घेऊन तो सील करण्याची कारवाई करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला.
यासाठी इंडियन ऑइलचे वरिष्ठ अधिकारी गुल्लाकुंटला मणिप्रसाद आणि त्यांच्यासोबत महेश अण्णाराव शेळके, तसेच इतर कर्मचारी चोंढी येथील साई उमेश पेट्रोल पंपावर गेले.
शेळके हे इंडियन ऑइलमध्ये Manager(Retail Sales)म्हणून काम करत होते आणि नांदेड नॉर्थ Retail Sales Area मध्ये field officer म्हणून कार्यरत होते.
विशेष म्हणजे, काही महिन्यांपूर्वीच त्यांच्या कामगिरीची राष्ट्रीय पातळीवर दखल घेण्यात आली होती आणि इंडियन ऑइलच्या field officers मध्ये देशभरात पहिल्या क्रमांकावर आल्याची बातमीही मला एकेठिकाणी वाचायला मिळाली.

दुपारी साधारण अडीचच्या सुमारास शेळके आणि मणिप्रसाद पेट्रोल पंपावर पोहोचले.
पंप बंद होता. मालक साहेब सोपनराव पांडववीर तिथे नव्हते.
फोन केला असता त्यांच्या ?पत्नीने ते आजारी असून हैदराबादमधील रुग्णालयात दाखल असल्याचं सांगितलं.
दरम्यान इंडियन ऑइलच्या आण��ी काही कर्मचाऱ्यांची टीम तिथे पोहोचली. पंप आणि त्यावरील यंत्रसामग्रीची पाहणी करण्यात आली आणि त्याचा रिपोर्ट तयार करण्यात आला.अगदी रूटीन काम.
साधारण चारच्या सुमारास टीम तिथून निघण्याच्या तयारीत असतानाच वातावरण अचानक तापलं.
डीलरची पत्नी? तिथे आली आणि
“आमचा पंप बंद कसा करता?” असा जाब विचारत तिने कंपनीच्या अधिकाऱ्यांच्या कामाला विरोध केल्याचा FIRमध्ये उल्लेख आहे.
तेवढ्यात डीलरचा मुलगा उमेश साहेब पांडववीर हा दोन तरुणांसोबत मोटारसायकलवर तिथे आला.
त्यानंतर काही कागदपत्रांवरून त्या सर्वांची चर्चा झाली.
त्यातून काही निघेना म्हणून शेवटी शेळके यांनी ज्यांच्याशी करार केलाय त्यांच्याशी म्हणजे त्या पोराच्या वडिलांशी बोलू असं सांगून विषय संपवत घेतला आणि टीम तिथून निघायला लागली.
पण त्यानंतर जे घडलं ते अत्यंत भयंकर होतं.
उमेश पांडववीरने शेळके यांच्यावर धारदार शस्त्राने हल्ला केला. FIRनुसार, त्यांच्या डोक्यावर आणि पाठीवर वार करण्यात आले.
शेळके खाली पडल्यानंतरही हल्ला थांबला नाही. कारण ती बाई का आई..
जी आधी बोलायला आली होती ती म्हणे हा परत गेला नाही पाहिजे असं बोलत होती
आणि त्यामुळे त्यांच्यावर गळा, पोट आणि चेहऱ्यावर सात वार करण्यात आल्याचं FIRमध्ये नमूद आहे.
मणिप्रसाद आणि दुसरा कर्मचारी त्यांना वाचवण्यासाठी धावले. मात्र त्यांनाही धमकावण्यात आ���ं. त्यामुळे त्यांना मागे हटावं लागलं. मग मणिप्रसाद यांनी 112 वर फोन करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला पण तोही करू दिला नाही..शेवटी दोघेही गाडीतून तिथून निघाले. आरोपींनी त्यांचा मोटारसायकलवरून पाठलाग केल्याचाही FIRमध्ये उल्लेख आहे.
नंतर पोलीस घटनास्थळी पोहोचले. शेळके गंभीर जखमी अवस्थेत रक्ताच्या थारोळ्यात पडले होते. त्यांना रुग्णालयात नेण्यात आलं; मात्र त्यांचा मृत्यू झाला.
ह्यात सर्वात मोठा मुद्दा म्हणजे..
महेश शेळके काही वैयक्तिक भांडणासाठी तिथे गेले नव्हते.
ते इंडियन ऑइलचे अधिकारी म्हणून कंपनीचं अधिकृत काम करण्यासाठी तिथे गेले होते.
अगदीच साधं रूटीन नेहमीचे काम करायला गेलेल्याचा अशा प्रकारे जीव गमवावा लागतो, हीच या घटनेची सर्वात धक्कादायक बाजू आहे.
घटनेनंतर इंडियन ऑइल Officers' Association नेही तीव्र नाराजी व्यक्त केली , field officersच्या सुरक्षेबाबत यापूर्वीही व्यवस्थापनाकडे मुद्दे मांडले असल्याचं संघटनेने म्हटलं आहे.
संघराज्य पेट्रोलियम मंत्री हरदी�� सिंह पुरी यांनीही या घटनेचा तीव्र निषेध करत महाराष्ट्र सरकार आणि पोलिसांच्या वरिष्ठ अधिकाऱ्यांकडे तातडीने आणि कठोर कारवाई करण्याची मागणी केल्याचं सांगितलं आहे.

A bright and promising Sales Officer, Shri Shelke was a dedicated professional whose commitment and sincerity had earned him the respect of his colleagues. His untimely passing is an irreparable loss to his family and a profound loss to the IndianOil family.

He was a part of a team carrying out the takeover of an IndianOil retail outlet in Hingoli district when he was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon. Violence against an officer of a public sector organisation is absolutely unacceptable. IOOA strongly urge MoPNG, IOCL Management and the Government of Maharashtra to ensure a swift, impartial and time-bound investigation and arrest of the perpetrators within 24 hours, subject to due process of law.
The bereaved family must receive immediate support, and the safety and security of all officers serving the nation must be ensured.
