Water depletion is direct proof that our conservation efforts are non-existent. Every mangrove chopped just accelerates the evaporation that dries up our lakes.
Stop the destruction. Save the water.
This isn't a trade-off; it's a catastrophe.

Mumbai may face a 10% water cut from May 1 as the lake levels that supply the city are dropping due to rising heat and faster evaporation. To make sure water lasts till the monsoon, the BMC is planning this precautionary step.
This could mean less water supply, low pressure in taps and stricter rules in housing societies. Residents are advised to start saving water now and avoid any wastage.
Another 457 trees are at risk of being destroyed, BMC’s Tree Authority has cleared proposals to cut 253 trees and transplant 204 trees for infra projects.

less load on the Western Express Highway, faster west suburb travel once the Versova–Bangur Nagar link and Bandra–Versova sea link are ready (target Dec 2028).✅👍
This is Saint-Denis Pleyel metro station in Paris, built to handle a daily footfall of 250,000 vs Thane Rly station that currently handles a footfall of 800,000 daily.
The built environment is politics made visible and it speaks who the govt serves by what it chooses to build.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has launched the ‘Flex-Free Mumbai for 365 Days’ campaign to curb unauthorised banners, hoardings and PVC waste across the city. The initiative proposes mandatory QR codes on approved banners, strict action against violators and a digital single-window system for permissions.
Tawde has also called for political parties and citizens to support the campaign, urging Mumbaikars to extend the environmental spirit of Ganeshotsav throughout the year.

The best and reasonable thing to do now is avoid more irreversible damage done to mangroves ecosystem and halt all work till a fresh risk assessment is done.
We cannot afford to lose more mangroves, the WORK MUST STOP!!
“In my entire life, I have never seen such a severe drought. All crops, including soya bean, cotton and sugarcane, have suffered due to the dry spell and the loss is huge,” said Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil.

If the plan is simply to allow contractors to enjoy and squeeze more money out of Mumbai, then it may seem appropriate. Otherwise, many questions arise:
🚨 Why has the @mybmc and state regime been sitting on the Mumbai Climate Action Plan for over 4 years?
🚨 While we made the “rain water holding tanks” for Gandhi Market, Hind Mata and Milan Subway, and had plans for many more, why was there no such plan/ action in the past 4 years?
🚨 Planning now only for one kind of climate emergency is not going to be enough. We need to work on both sides- the desalination plant work we had begun, had been halted since July 2022. Finally they have begun the process.
🚨 Simply saying “sponge city” and “adaptation/ resilience” isn’t going to help, while the State Regime allows itself, its agencies, and its builder and contractor friends to hack trees mindlessly.
Lakhs of mangrove trees, thousands of urban trees, conversion of playgrounds and open spaces to buildings, fake compensation for projects…
Ajni Vann in Nagpur, Riverfront Destruction and Vetal Tekdi in Pune, Tapovan in Nashik, tiger corridors in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli… all of them at the risk of being finished off by the regime.
And then we worry about Mumbai submerging due to seawater rise!
The State Regime is actively contributing to the mindless destruction of nature!
Unless that halts, no amount of money poured into our cities with such plans, will matter!

Yesterday, an iron barricade fell from under construction Metro Line 4 at LBS Marg, killing a biker, Wasim Rizvi (54). He was a plumber by profession.
Last week, two workers from West Bengal died after an iron scaffolding collapsed when they were climbing down the under construction Bhakti Park Metro Station of same Metro Line 4. Their name was Nahij (33) and Sakim (37).
In February, a concrete slab fell from Line 4 on LBS Marg, and crashed onto an auto-rickshaw, instantly crushing Ramdhan Yadav, and injuring three others.
As @bytesofnews rightfully pointed out, at this point, we'll have to make a memorial for all the martyrs. Line 4 (Green) should be renamed to Line 0 (Yamraj Line).
Each time, @MMRDAOfficial brushes off responsibility and fines the contractors involved a few crores. Contractor? Reliance Infra-Astaldi, yep, that same bankrupt Anil Ambani company that cannot afford to spend a dime to upgrade Line 1. Operate karne ka aukaat hai nai, chala gov contract leke chutiya banane.
An FIR is registered, and the sub-contractors + handful of project managers are arrested (scapegoats basically).
But, no heads roll at the top. MMRDA acts like an insanely unaccountable org that's a mere paper pusher. DPR, bids, award. It does nothing other than this.
And the consequences are visible. 4 deaths, many more instances of debris falling from the elevated station/viaduct, and yet work is never complete.
Line 4 is DELAYED by half a decade since construction began in 2018. The 32km line is still far from full commissioning, let's hope the great babus don't spill into 2030s.
This line is supposed to help decongest Central Railway, yet another widow-making transport laggard. The delay of Line 4 also has blood on its hands from the Mumbra Curve.
MMRDA has equally delayed Line 6 (Pink) on JVLR and Line 2B, even these lines won't be commissioned anytime before 2029. And Line 14 isn't even there on paper yet. The people of Dombivali-Ambernath are already dead meat.
Meanwhile, @DrSanMukherjee, the great untouchable Emperor from the IAS caste, is busy telling us how a 300km Ring Road around Mumbai is the future. How BKC needs a SCAM project called BaBaGaadi (PodTaxi). How Mumbai 69.0 is getting unlocked near god-knows-where Rajouri district.
Sala if all of this wasn't enough, the IAS has the audacity launch "India’s First Weekly Public Transport Day for
BKC Business District - Friday".
Tere government gaadi ke chhapre pe chaddh ke pohchu main BKC?!
@CMOMaharashtra@Dev_Fadnavis, next election jab BJP karyakarta vote ki bheekh maange aaye-na, toh please, khudko InfraMan toh mat hi bolna. Thoda saa darr rakho Ganpati bappa ka, itna jhoot mat bolo.

Unfortunately Climate Change is happening right now, if we destroy our existing Mangroves that will only make it worse.
It won’t wait for 10 years and follow along BMC’s plan.
