Creating space for dissent, critique, and self-critique are necessary practices for growing healthy movements. What hurts our movements is when we resort to calling each other “cops” or “feds” every time we simply disagree and it is extremely dangerous.
Liberals are framing Aaron Bushnell’s self-immolation as “self-harm” or a cautionary tale of “mental health crisis” because they cannot fathom the concept of martyrdom. They cannot understand someone giving their lives for a cause they believe in. To put their bodies on the line.
There is a broad effort in gay clubs/bars in the US to discourage Pro-Palestinian activism. The hypocrisy or general ignorance of which doesn’t take into account the centrality of the Vietnam war & anti-war movement to the emergence of the Gay liberation movement in the US (1/10)
I know @ottawacity councillors are known for mobilizing dangerous/stigmatizing policies + practices - but is a new low. @PlanteSteph613, I'm begging you to educate yourself and do better. You have no right to encourage violations of privacy and dignity like this. Shame on you.
there’s an enduring liberal fantasy that if you show enough people something horrific a collective outrage will build and work its magic and, through pre-approved legal means, we’ll all be able to put a stop to it. the current moment is telling us just how false that dream is

What happens when we allow ourselves to proceed on the assumption that the Other we fear is always evil, always a monster, always has the worst intentions? What would be possible if we opened up to best possibility in others - and in so doing, the better parts of ourselves?
The central theme of my speech for Dec 6 is what happens when we allow our fear of the Other to override our empathy. I think we all are guilty of this at some time or other. I am deeply curious about the pain that drives us to attack one another.
