Many ordinary Haitians the world over are suddenly finding themselves thrust into the role of having to be a spokesperson, historian, and educator on behalf of an entire nation in light of recent events. #Haiti
Today’s the day, folks.
Over a month of relentless football, unparalleled vibes, and brutal sleep schedules, but it all comes down to this.
This was my first World Cup properly covering every game on Twitter, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a stronger sense of community.
There’s something about the World Cup that makes strangers feel connected, and getting to live every twist and turn of it with all of you has been one of the highlights of my year.
And this final… oh this final! As a Barça fan, it feels almost too perfect to be real. Either 9 of our own become world champions, or the greatest player we’ve ever seen and produced goes back to back.
No matter how it ends, it’s impossible for me to come out truly disappointed. And it’s been a privilege to share it with all of you.
Messi was 19, Yamal is 19. 19 years later, they’ll face each other at the World Cup final on the 19th. Both scored their first World Cup goal at 18 wearing the same jersey number 19. Messi wants a second title, Yamal wants his first.
WORK HARD TILL YOUR IDOL BECOMES YOUR RIVAL🐐
You can’t convince me life is just a series of coincidences. What do you mean Lionel Messi was randomly paired with a five-month-old baby after the baby’s family won a UNICEF raffle for a charity photoshoot while Messi played for Barcelona… and that baby grew up to be Lamine Yamal?
Lamine would go on to become one of the brightest young stars in soccer, wear the same No. 19 Messi wore for the same team when that photo was taken, and now, nearly two decades later, could face Messi in a World Cup Final???????
This was the tournament of the stars. Where all the big players were shining, tremendous individual showings, illuminating the competition. And then Spain come and show it is all about team effort. A collective idea. An entire squad totally bought in. Tremendous.
I hate to say it, but credit where credit is due. What a player, what a performance, and what a World Cup he has been having.
Rodri was simply on another level today. He didn't just control the midfield, he completely owned it. With the ball, he dictated the rhythm, found the right passes, and gave Spain total control. Without it, he was everywhere: winning duels, closing spaces, and stopping France from building any counter attack.
They were doubts about him before the tournament due to that ACL but he is still easily the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Spain reaches the World Cup final thanks to the style that Barcelona established and without a single Real Madrid player in the team. This is how things should be.
Beautiful.
Spain silenced everyone tonight. They didn't just beat France and book their place in the final, they completely outplayed them from start to finish.
I don't think even Spain's biggest supporters expected the game to be this one-sided. They controlled the tempo, dominated possession, neutralized France's biggest strengths, and made one of the tournament favorites look completely lost.
After this performance, it's hard to argue against them being the best team at this World Cup.
❗️Over a year ago, Pedri posted a picture with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams with the date of the World Cup final.
The prophecy has come true.
They will be playing together in the World Cup final.
