Follow us there to hear about our #ReadLA! campaign & all our work with #EarlyLiteracy 📚, #FamilyEngagement 👪, & #Education 🏫!
📚🐾 Reading opens the world for our students! We kicked off the first week at Bakewell Primary Center with @AsmTinaMcKinnor and @FamsInSchools President & Executive Director Yolie Flores for #ReadLA — sharing books, smiles, and even a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog! Students and families enjoyed storytime, books to take home, and a love of reading that’s off the charts. ✨

After a unanimous 75-0 vote on the Assembly floor today, #AB1454 now moves to the Senate. This is a major milestone on the path to effective reading instruction for all CA students. Momentum like this doesn't just happen. Much gratitude to @CAgovernor@CASpeakerRivas@Rubio4Assembly@AsmMuratsuchi for their leadership, @FamsInSchools@DDCalifornia and @naacpcahi for their partnership, and to the countless advocates who have pushed this bill forward.
We are excited to share that after several rounds of negotiations, AB 1454 (Rivas) is being amended to reflect a consensus between early literacy bills AB 1121 (Rubio), sponsored by EdVoice, and AB 1194 (Muratsuchi).
Ensuring every child in CA learns to read is one of the most important responsibilities of our public education system—and one that must be met with urgency. This bill is a major step forward.
The first hearing is scheduled for TODAY in the Assembly Education Committee. More details to come!
Thank you to @CASpeakerRivas@Rubio4Assembly@AsmMuratsuchi for leading us toward a bill that will uplift reading outcomes for millions of children in California.
