For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.

Late last evening I instructed our negotiators to return to Ottawa. We cannot accept what the U.S. has offered, and we will not give what they have asked. 

Canada will match the U.S.’ new tariffs dollar for dollar in order to protect Canadian workers, farmers, families, and businesses. We take this step confident that it is in the best interests of Canada. 

In the coming days, we will release the details of these new tariff measures, which will come into force the Tuesday after Labour Day.

Former Israeli PM Naftali Bennett dropped a bombshell: Netanyahu NO LONGER runs Israel.

That was the moment this interview stopped being about foreign policy and became about power.

He didn't just criticize Netanyahu; he said something far more damaging:

Ben-Gvir pulls him one way, Smotrich another, and the ultra-Orthodox parties in yet another direction.

And because Netanyahu depends on all of them to stay in power, Bennett argues he has lost the ability to say no.

When I asked him why Israel's reputation has collapsed across so much of the world, I expected him to blame biased media, anti-Israel activism, antisemitism, or foreign propaganda.

Instead, he looked me straight in the eye and admitted Israel's image is in crisis, and it's their own fault.

That's an extraordinary admission from a former Israeli Prime Minister.

What makes it interesting isn't that he's suddenly become a dove; he hasn't.

He still wants Hamas destroyed, Hezbollah disarmed, he's against Palestinian statehood, and still sees Iran as the central strategic threat.

But he says something has to change: Israel needs a government that knows how to end the constant wars.

A government that can rebuild relations with Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and the wider region, instead of allowing every conversation about Israel to be dominated by coalition ministers who talk about annexation and permanent conflict.

In his view, Israel's biggest problem is no longer simply the enemies beyond its borders; it's a government that has become captive to the most extreme voices inside it.

اگر برجام باقی مانده بود و اثرات اقتصادی مثبت آن می‌رسید و روندهای مثبت سال ۹۴ تا ۹۶ ادامه داشت، حالا امروز بخش بزرگی از جامعه ایران در طبقه متوسط جا می‌گرفتند. توان چانه‌زنی بیشتری داشت. امکان بیشتری برای فشار به حاکمیت و کاشتن دانه تغییر داشت و ایران متفاوتی می‌ساخت. اما برای شکم‌های خالی، سیاست چیزیست لاکچری. خروج از برجام تضعیف مستقیم جامعه بود. سنگی بزرگ بر سر راه تلاش دموکراسی‌خواهانه مردم ایران.

اگر خروج از برجام نبود و تهدید بیرونی از روی سر ایران برداشته می‌شد، احتمالا حاکمیت هم کمتر چنین پارانویک بود و کمتر هرچیزی را تهدید میدید و گوش شنواتری می‌داشت. اگر مستمر احساس خطر نمی‌کرد و منطق جنگی تا این اندازه بر کشور حاکم نبود، احتمالا دگرگونی‌های بزرگتری رخ میداد و ایران جزوی از اقتصاد جهانی میشد و حالا در وضعیت خیلی، خیلی متفاوتی بودیم.

کاری که ترامپ اول با خروج از برجام و امروز با جنگ علیه جنبش دموکراسی‌خواهی مردم ایران کرد هیچ کم از جنایت نداشت. او بزرگ‌ترین ضربه را به هر تلاش مدنی در ایران زد. او قوی‌ترین نیروی ضد دموکراسی در ایران است. او شیطانی بود که ما گرفتارش شدیم و برای سالها ما را به اغما برد. بدتر از کودتای مرداد ۳۲. نفرین ابدی به او.
