How Sequoia doubted Musk and passed on investing in SpaceX.
This video is from a 2011 tour of SpaceX taken by David Spector (@dspector), a partner at @sequoia. The exploding tank was actually a pressure test of the fuel tank. Spector recently shared the story on LinkedIn of how Sequoia had the chance to invest in @SpaceX back then and passed.
@elonmusk was looking to raise capital, a low single-digit billion dollar valuation. David shares "Touring the factory and spending time with Elon was mind-blowing, and we came away excited about the team and convinced cheap launch would blow open a market".
He prepared the materials, the memo, presented to his partners at Sequoia. And got turned down.
Sequoia did eventually invest in SpaceX, but not until 2019. Eight years later. Hindsight 20/20.
It's easy to only share the wins, but stories like these are important too.
If you want something from someone, make it clear what. It's not imposing to ask explicitly for something; it's imposing to be vague and make the recipient work to figure out what you want.

No journalist has ever taken a tour like THIS!
This video has been over a month in the making, enjoy!
SpaceX has introduced a new investor relations website where you can sign up to get notified of for all investor related updates.
The site includes sections for financial filings, events, a leadership page with all top executives and board of directors listed, as well as the committee composition, and lastly an updates page.
This is where investors will go when SpaceX earnings reports are released: https://t.co/LOtRAFsaF9
论文配图还在手画?这个工具直接让AI帮你搞定。
做学术的都懂,论文框架图有多折磨人。现在有个专门干这事的工具,输入你的PDF、摘要或方法说明,它帮你全自动生成:
① method overview

My favorite @elonmusk quote that I often send friends:
Do not fear losing. “You will lose,” Musk says. “It will hurt the first fifty times. When you get used to losing, you will play each game with less emotion.” You will be more fearless, take more risks.
In awe of SpaceX and its story - past, present and the future. You can think about it in 10+ different ways and continue re-blowing your mind in circles. Huge congrats to the team! 🚀
