Awful, this. Not an exaggeration to say that the entire independent football analysis scene is built on the back of @fbref giving *everyone* access to useful and interesting data.
Killing it as a resource is such a sad indictment of where football's heading.
No necesita protagonismo.
Ferran is such a funny footballer cause with soo many stats he shows up among the absolute elite of CF's but actually watching him can be so frustrating
With only a few short weeks until the 2026 preseason kicks off, it’s worthwhile to examine how the 2025 additions performed. Let’s take a look at Jovan Lukić.
Lukić joined the club on February 5, 2025, and is currently on a guaranteed deal through the end of 2026, with options for 2027 and 2028. It feels fair to expect that those options will be exercised, or that he’ll be offered an improved, longer-term deal. In 2025, he earned $329,875 -- a steal given his production (more on that shortly).
In 2025, he was as reliable as any player on the roster, featuring in 39 matches and logging 3,108 minutes across all competitions. From a goals-and-assists perspective (not including non-MLS secondary assists), he recorded three goals and two assists, highlighted by incredible strikes in back-to-back matches against New England and Nashville.
Initially labeled an “unknown” and a “very Union signing,” Lukić quickly changed that narrative, winning over both fans and the press in short order.
His metrics were outstanding for a newcomer to the league -- particularly notable given the usual adjustment period for foreign players adapting to MLS physicality, pace, travel demands, and a congested schedule.
As shown in the graphic, he did more than enough to earn consideration for the 2025 Best XI as a defensive midfielder. He ranked among the league’s best in percentage of aerial duels won, tackles and interceptions, and blocks. Additionally, he proved capable of progressing the ball forward -- not necessarily a primary expectation of his role, but something he did effectively alongside Danley Jean-Jacques.
Overall, it was undoubtedly a highly successful first season for a player adapting to a new league and a new country.

De acordo com o [@jorgenicola], o São Paulo fechou a contratação do volante Danielzinho que pertencia ao Mirassol.
O jogador chega de graça no clube, e a princípio vem para disputar posição com o Marcos Antônio.
Little late to the party but...
Yan Diomande 🚀| This is europe's next rising star, has every attribute to join any top flight club and establish himself. Reminds me of a young O.Dembele similar gait and running style.
Getting younger is not a bad thing in this sport.
A few things to consider with the potential deal between Philadelphia an Los Angeles Galaxy for Jakob Glesnes.
Glesnes is not getting any younger, and contract-wise, he is not getting any cheaper either. In 2025, he earned $1.31 million in guaranteed compensation, with a guaranteed contract through 2027 and an option for 2028.
That structure would have meant continued high-level compensation as he plays through ages 32, 33, and potentially 34.
There are a couple of useful comparisons here. First, a look at his MLS All-Star seasons in 2023 versus 2025. Second, a comparison between 2025 and what was essentially a blip year in 2024. There were significant changes in style of play between 2024 and 2025, but this helps illustrate how he compares across those different stretches.
As far as I’ve been told, this is not done. It’s in progress, but not finalized.

With the regular season now complete, Anders Dreyer will likely -- and deservedly -- win the Newcomer of the Year award from the voting press.
That said, two players who absolutely deserve recognition for their performances this season are Jovan Lukic and Olwethu Makhanya (who, I believe, should qualify since he didn’t feature in any matchday roster last year - correct me if I am wrong).
Both have had incredible, breakout MLS seasons.

Milan Iloski since joining Philadelphia: 9 appearances, 3 goals, 4 assists in 572 minutes.
“With his success, it made the conversations [on negotiations between San Diego and Iloski] more difficult...we were a long ways away. If it was close, it would have gotten done. That was the most frustrating part.”
San Diego Sporting Director Tyler Heaps on Iloski’s departure after the mutual termination of his loan deal earlier in the year.
What a smart addition for Philadelphia.

One of the brightest spots of this year’s Philadelphia Union squad has been the midfield—especially the “yin and yang” dynamic between Jovan Lukic and Danley Jean-Jacques, who complement each other perfectly.
It’s been quite the year for the newcomer Lukic and for Jean-Jacques, the late-summer 2024 addition who’s quickly made an impression.

There is something about a one-two that is so aesthetically pleasing.
For @TheAthleticFC, I dug into the data to quantify the action itself, before looking at who engages in them the most!
