One alcohol drink four or more times per week elevates the risk of premature death by 20%.
Any level of alcohol use per week increases risk of seven types of terrifying cancers including that of throat in men and breast in women.

I have an Indian passport. As a subspecialist, it’s safe to say I earn more than an American janitor. Yet he can walk into some countries without worrying about visa, while I have to do a lot of paperwork.
Is this unfair ? Yes
Is it immoral ? No.
Why ?
Before applying for a visa - the country knows nothing about me other than the fact that I am one of the 1.4 billion Indians. The group level decision is “Don’t enter” - for many reasons. The risks to the host country range from a tourist overstaying the visa to a large deluge of Indians flooding their country.
If they take a decision in an atmosphere of information paucity, a NO is not just justified, but is vital for their self preservation.
However, after seeing the passport, a valid US / Schengen visa, multiple trips abroad where I havent overstayed, they may change their group level decision of “Don’t enter” → Individual level decision of “Enter”.
An American doesn’t have to go through the hassle.
For him, the group level decision is “Enter” - because his passport is stronger. Even better for a Singaporean. He didn’t make it strong - his country is powerful, rich and has citizens who don’t routinely go as illegal immigrants to other countries. He simply benefits from the group membership.
Bottom line:
- Life is unfair
- All exclusions aren’t immoral, even if they seem unfair. Some are necessary for self preservation.
- Arbitrariness of exclusions can be reduced by furnishing more data, which reassure the host.
- I don’t have an inalienable right to fly to any country, even though I would love to.
🧵 Immunology Simplified: A Thread for Clinicians

🧬 Immunology can feel overwhelming.
But clinical practice needs core concepts, not endless pathways.
Let’s break it down.

Odds of dying:
Car accident: 1 in 93
Plane crash: 1 in 11 million (per flight), or ~1 in 188,000 lifetime.
Air travel is by far the safest mode of transport, yet we fear it the most. Why?
1. All-or-Nothing Nature: A plane crash usually leaves no survivors. That high-fatality outcome triggers more fear than car or train accidents, where survival is more likely, even if accidents are far more common.
2. Availability Heuristic: This is a cognitive bias where people judge the probability of events based on how easily examples come to mind. Plane crashes are rare but receive massive media coverage with dramatic visuals and high death tolls. This makes them feel more common and deadly than they are. Car crashes, despite being more frequent, have much fewer casualties, are underreported, and seen as routine.
3. Evolutionary Bias: Humans evolved on land. We instinctively feel safer on solid ground even when statistics say otherwise.
4. People feel more anxious when they aren’t in control. In a plane, you're entirely dependent on the pilot, crew, and systems. In a car, even as a passenger, the illusion of control (you can see the road, yell at the driver, etc.) reduces fear.
Maturity is realizing that the Dr's reaction throughout this episode was one of calmness and courage. Calmness in not stooping down to the level of the goon minister and courage in trying to make his point, yet smiling when he was threatened while not being allowed to do so.
UPDATE 🚨: The pressure is working!
After an unprecedented wave of outrage and a clear 48-hour ultimatum by the Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD), the Health Minister has called an urgent late-night meeting with GARD council members at 9:30 pm today.
This is what happens when doctors and citizens unite and call out the political drama.
Let’s keep the momentum going:
No compromise on dignity or the rights of every healthcare worker. GARD needs your support to stand up to the political pressure they will try to put on the council members!
We demand:
✅ Immediate revocation of the suspension
✅ Public apology from the Minister
✅ Ban on all VIP video stunts in hospitals
✅ End of VIP culture in emergency care
We’re closely watching and in constant touch with GARD. The whole medical community is watching.
If the demands aren’t met, the strike begins. Healthcare workers are not punching bags for politicians. They should know their limits!
Will update on the proceedings of the meeting once GARD conveys!
🚨BREAKING: Resident doctors of Goa have given a 48 hour ultimatum to the Health Minister, otherwise GARD will go on indefinite strike!
Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tried to give a political masterclass at Goa Medical College (GMC) yesterday following the 2 Rs toolkit for cheap political publicity:
1. March into a casualty ward with your camera crew.
2. Bark orders at the doctor on call.
3. Declare yourself the people’s messiah.
But he forgot that doctors have had enough of this political hooliganism!
Resident doctors of Goa have now given a 48 hour ultimatum to the Health Minister, otherwise the poor people of his state will have to suffer if GARD goes on strike!
🚨 For those unaware, here’s what has happened in the last 24 hours:
A doctor at Goa Medical College Casualty has become a scapegoat, all thanks to Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. In a shocking viral video likely spearheaded by his PR Team, Rane stormed into the hospital camera crew in tow and publicly humiliated and suspended the doctor, simply for following established medical protocol by refusing a routine Vitamin B12 injection in casualty.
To gain cheap publicity, the minister arrogantly shouted at the doctor:
✅“Put your hands down!”
✅“Lower your mask!” (despite ongoing COVID threats)
✅“I’ll suspend you for two years!”
Here’s the reality: Vitamin B12 injections aren’t emergencies. Casualties are meant for urgent, life-threatening cases, not political video-ops.
The moment that video hit social media and gained public criticism instead of applause, Rane’s PR team aka “political chappris started damage control.
A carefully vetted, hypocritical apology followed, pretending concern and empathy. This isn’t compassion. It’s political hooliganism. Such stunts steadily erode public trust in doctors. It’s not just wrong, it’s dangerous and we cannot take this lightly.
The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) has issued a powerful 48-hour ultimatum demanding:
✅ Immediate revocation of the suspension with fair inquiry.
✅ Public apology by Minister Rane.
✅ Ban on filming inside emergency patient-care areas.
✅ End of VIP culture & political bullying in hospitals.
If demands aren’t met: GARD goes on indefinite strike.
Rane’s actions are calculated abuses of power. Ministers must remember they’re elected to serve, not intimidate.
Hooliganism belongs on the streets, not in hospitals. If Rane has any decency left, he must immediately resign or issue an unconditional apology.
We must stand together as doctors, patients and citizens against this dangerous political circus destroying country’s healthcare system and show these miscreants the place where they actually belong!
Due to the potent antioxidant and hormone-like effects of bilirubin, individuals with GILBERT’S SYNDROME are protected from the “diseases of civilisation” such as cardiovascular diseases, certain cancers, and autoimmune or neurodegenerative diseases.

No ceasefire in Amritsar - May 11, 2025 4:24am. Series of blasts. I just slept at 4am thinking its a quiet night that my dog woke me up in just 20 mins wanting to do his business. So I took him out in the dark and heard some sounds in far distance. And then suddenly all around. It’s still continuing. Made this video before I came inside. Check out how it feels and sounds to people in the city.
